About 7 pm I aroused, and went in search of a cold San Miguel. There were several karaoke bars up the street, and I passed by several and then went into one. I sat down and ordered a beer, and was then immediately entertained by a young lady who wanted me to buy her a drink. I refused. She left. After my beer was gone, I sat there for about 10 minutes without service. Finally, I left.

I went down the street to another karaoke joint and sat down. I was served buy a man, and the beer was warm. (hot, almost)  Upon finishing, a girl informed me there was a P100 cover charge. I told her I was leaving as the beer was warm. I paid for the beer and left.

I went next door to a place that had a sign on the door that said "No cover" and "Happy Hour 8 to 10, P15 beer"  I sat there quite a while and had 6 or 8 beers, then got up to leave. The bill was P300. I asked how this could possibly be. I was informed happy hour was only on weekends. I look at the sign, it says nothing about weekends. I gave them a P500 note, to which they look completely overwhelmed by. They take my money into the back, implying they have no change for such a large bill. I stand there about 10 minutes. Then, a filipino walks up to the cashier and gets change for a P1000 bill. Now, I'm pissed. I want my change. The cashier hands it to me out of the till, and I leave.

I now head to yet another bar. I walk in, order a beer, and sit down. It is now late. There are a half dozen people of philippine descent in there. They look at me, and all get up and go upstairs. I drank my beer, and was not offered another. I went back to the dump, and crawled up the fire escape. Thus ends my first day.

Great style Shadow!  I can't wait for day 2:

"...Bohol.  It was a hot day.  A hot, dusty day in this sleepy little barangay.  I took my breakfast in the cafe.  In she walks, it's more like a glide.  A Filipina, a real head turner, hotter than a 10 peso pistol, yeah you could say she was attractive.  Our eyes met.  She said nothing.  I belched.  That's when it all began..."

"..I didn't need a dame.  I needed a vacation.  Why is it a dame always shows up when you don't need one.  I don't know.  But something about her was different.  She was a mystery, an open book, a force like a brick on the head - yeah you could say she had my attention.  I asked her her name, 'It's up to you' she said.  I guess she had a point.  I got up to leave, then sat back down.  Why?  Because she was good.  D**n good."

Good stuff. You've got quite the dark and quirky take on things, but very engaging. Keep it coming.

This is great stuff! I can't wait to hear about all of the other days in your adventure. And to think...all I did was sleep the first day. ;o)) No one even asked me if I wanted a boy or a girl. Shocked( Too much! I did get a ref. Shocked))

Way to go Shadow! Your story already sounds like an Asian version of "On The Road" by Jack Kerouac. Budget travel in the RP which for the most part is, off the backpackers trail if compared to Thailand, Nepal etc is always full of interesting tales. I truly believe this in the trenches style of travel on the shoestring is how to really see the dirt and grime of a country so easily missed by staying in the Hilton. I think your attention to detail will save you from offending anyone. And why not tell it how it is based on what you experienced? Sounds like maybe you didnt even bother picking up a Lonely Planet? You've earned my respect already although that carries little merit as my posts have proven quite unpopular here. Looking foward to the next chapter.

                          Peace,
                           Joe

I concur with what others have already said. I just today got a chance to read your reports. Are there more? I hope so. I like hearing from someone who's not afraid to jump into the middle of things and then is able to describe it so well.
