I have some family friends who are going to Kyiv to adopt two little girls in June. I would like them to be able to take as much helpful info as possible, and one issue was restaurants. I recommended:

Mimino's
Arizona Barbeque
Tequila House

Someone posted recently about another great place. Can anybody give me any insights or tips?

There's my favorite Pantagruel on a side street at the Golden Gate (Zoloty Borota).

Another nice place is Columbus. It's an Italian restaraunt tucked away in a courtyard of Priorizhna Street, which is the street running uphill directly accross from Kreshatyk Metro. The only indication it's there is a smallish sign standing on the sidewalk.  It's on the left going away from Kreshatyk.

Found a great place for lots of different kinds of Ukrainian food, a fun buffet.  Place is translated as "Home Kitchen".  It's near the Opera house.  Extremely reasonable and the place was always packed!  We both loved it.  You go into this little waiting area with the glass door ahead closed.  They only open the doors like every 10 minutes after enough people come out.  Kinda like being in some kind of holding pen! LOL!

Is this the Ukrainian restaurant in the park across from the Taras Schevchenko University?
If so, I recommend it too. English on the menu and moderately priced.

I thought Tequila House was OK, but western prices. Note, it says not to tip on the bill, but it's printed in Ukrainian.

It is distinctly Ukrainian and is among the most expensive restaurants in Ukraine. Tsarske Selo is not at all "moderatly priced" - so you must have found a different restaurant.

Chateu de Fleur (on Kreschatyk)
Concorde (French restaurant)
Hutorok (Ukrainian restaurant on the water - across from AZ BBQ)
Deju Vu (upscale restaurant w/Jazz theme)

Check out this website to see a pretty comprehensive listing of restaurants in Kyiv -- http://www.chicken.kiev.ua/eng/list.phtml

Your friends cannot go wrong with any of these places.

Cheers!
