Romanian Women Question

I am curious what experience anyone on the board has had with Romanian women. Is there any political/ cultural reasons
Romania is not so popular for visiting?
I have a friend who found his true love on the net from Romania.
All info would be appreciated

My first ever trip to the former Eastern Bloc was to Romania, in the winter of 1992 (3 short years after it was liberated from Ceacescu) and it was a grim place back then. I was there on business,and I remember there was a snowstorm the night I arrived, the streets and buildings all dimly lit, and the place was just crumbling. It was quite a culture shock back then.

But when I finally found my hotel (Intercontinental, but not like any Intercontinental I ever stayed in before!) I headed straight for the bar in the basement and suddenly, in the middle of all that grot, I came face to face with some of the most stunning women I had ever seen. At their best, I still say that Romanian women are possibly the most attractive in the world. In this case (the hotel bar) they were all hookers, and when I ventured out to the nearest disco bar it was pretty much the same story... but that is beside the point.

That first trip must have got to me because I found I just had to go back; and I got hooked on the place. I must have been there at least 10 times over the last 10 years, summer and winter; I even went skiing there, in Poiana Brasov. Summer is opposite of winter, very hot, and Bucharest is now quite pleasant at that tie of year, with green parks and shady streets. Anyway enough waffle; what about the women...?

They come in all sorts but I've noticed that there is a predominance of dark slightly meniterranean looking girls out there, and many of the girls are quite striking (like Greeks or Italians). They also seem to have a natural way of moving on the dance floor, and are quite image-concious, again like many latins. It may be no coincidence that the language (totally different from Russian) is also actually Latin-based and has many similarities with Italian or French. For example, Buna Ziua (Bonjour, Bon Giorno, Good Day) Noapte Buna (Bon Nuit, Bona Note, Goodnight) and La Revedere (arreviderci, Au Revoir, goodbye).

I've always found them to be rather difficult to deal with, maybe the combination of a high spirited temperament (another Latin trait) and the rigours of the post-communist society is just too heady a cocktail. I tried to start relationships a few times, just through chance meetings whilst there, but I always seemed to pick the ones with poor English and too many problems. But one important thing to remember... most of my exposure (!)to Romanian women was in the capital, and we all know how worldly wise the women are in the city; the few I met in small villages were simple, honest and wonderful people, and they wear their hearts on their sleeve. But of course they are less liely to be educated or prepared for the world outside. It's worth considering more remote cities like Timisoara and Brasov (the Romainains themselves have told me that there is a more friendly open mentality there).  

Interesting that an RW has been complimentary to Romanian women, I have heard more than one RW say just the opposite (that they are tricky, devious etc) but I think it's only just the culture difference, the same as a Scandinavian might find with a Greek for example.

Why are there so few of them listed with agencies? I'm not sure about the economy thing, Bucharest is relatively good but once you get out in the villages there is little difference with Ukraine etc. I went to visit one girl at her home in Ploiesti (a city built on oil refineries) and they were really riendly but I've never been in any house in Ukraine to compare with it; I can't imagine how they manage in winter. Maybe it has just been overlooked, and agencies have been too busy elsewhere to get established there. Maybe there is a business opportunity here somewhere...

It makes me want to check out those Romanian women.

However, I will tend to disagree with you on one thing, that being that it did not make that much difference that they were hookers.

Since men prefer beautiful women, the women who are hookers tend to be among a group of women who are elite in physical appearance not uncommonly where ever you go. I just do not think that you can determine the nature of a countries women by the appearance of hookers. I may be wrong - just has been my impression.

Yes, you're right; my first visual impression of Romanian women was a bar full of girls angling for business (I was so naive I didn't even realize it at first!) Being in a room full of the best looking girls, dressed to kill, eyeballing you the whole time... it leaves a lasting impression on your first trip to a strange place! Interesting point is that I wouldn't describe them as hookers in the normal sense of the word; many were students getting through college, and had otherwise normal lives; they seemed for all the world to be just out dancing like any other young girl at the weekend, and if they found a suitable westerner with deep pockets, so much the better. My impression was that they were just trying to survive, and I didn't look down on them the way I might to a real full-time "pro" in the west. But I wouldn't try starting a relationship with one, either!

Pordzhik is right (below) about Moldovans, and the country is more depressed than Romania (I noticed some Moldovan women had actually come to Bucharest to "better" themselves!) Yes, they are more or less the same to look at.
A previous acquaintance of mine actually got involved with one who was working as a dancer in a club in Cyprus, and it got quite serious (he visited her in Chisinau after she went back, and they made a trip to Moscow together). She had a great figure and was at least 5'10" tall; she and her family made her feel very welcome and she really fell for him big style (never asked for anything except companionship from him, either). He could easily have made a go of it, but unfortunately he was playing a double game between her... and his wife in Greece. (Not nice).

I wasn't so serious about it at first, I made a couple of friends in Romania back in '92 and I returned quite often but I was not searching scientifically (agencies etc), just hanging out and chasing opportunities as they came along. I had a couple of relationships but they didn't last too long (I picked the wrong ones; when you rely on chance encounters, in the absence of background info, your initial criteria is basically how they look. Later you get to know them, for better or worse!Another advantage of the "MOB" system I suppose.

I took time out for a couple of years as I got involved with an Italian girl, then I found myself back in the market and started the MOB process in earnest. That's when I started the serious travelling (Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Latvia). I honestly expected to find success in Ukraine, that seems to offer the best commbination of many nice girls and relative accessibility (getting a visa for Russia seems more complicated and I feel more comfortable in Ukraine, it's more "homely." But as fate would have it, I am now in a nice relationship withy a young lady from Latvia (I first went out there 3 years ago when I had something going with a Latvian dancer I met in Greece... no comment! ... but no connection with this girl). The current relationship is the most serious to date (maybe I have finally learned to keep my eyes in my head every time I see a beautiful girl.) I went to meet her in Riga, and she spent Christmas with me in the UK (met my folks also). We make contact eseveral times a day; She's also coming out to Greece to stay with me for 2 weeks in Feb. I posted something earlier asking for opinions about her spending habits and got some very forthright responses, but I think the problems arose from misunderstanding and I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt... we'll see what happens in Feb!!  

Incidentally, she has a Latvian passport, and for those who don't already know, Latvian passports are acceptable throughout the EU without VISA (big plus!!) I don't know the situation with the States though.

The same reason Bulgaria is not very popular...The economy is better than in either Russia or Ukraine and so the pickings are slimmer and the women are are more selective.  Don't get me wrong, the economies of both of these countries still suck, but they are better.   To the positive, my wife has a very good opinion of Romanian women.  She says they are (in general) very beautiful and have excellant attitudes towards life.

My wife and I were in Budapest and I swear my coffee girl looked just like the St. Pauli girl. These dark haired blue eyed ones are real hot too. But let me tell ya this.......al women are beautiful. I do not care if they are European, Spanish, Iraqi, or Nigerian. If I was 20 years younger and knew what I knew now, I would travel the world-just to see the women..........
