Did you ever notice that when we have a warm winter here it seems like Russians or Europeans are freezing their asses off?  Then our press will talk about global warming and never mention the cold weather over there.

It's all so humorous that, we take these "experts" seriously.

However, if I was being healthily funded, by the state & its surrogates, to frighten the general populace, well...

I still wouldn't.

Good point!

Onwards to Kyoto & economic ruin (sans Red China & the 3rd world)...

Ten, twenty below, some places in winter, has nothing to do with Global Warming.
When the ice is melting around the north pole, has.
It has to do with the lenght of the cold, the lenght of summer in the north, etc.
Read about the GulfStream and what will happen soon.
In truth we are going to hell very quickly.
May it be that Bush want to steal, 168 billions barrels or not.
The earth has 20-25 years to go.

Twenty years ago experts said we only had 20 years worth of oil before we ran out.  But we got smarter and found more oil and figured out how to extract more of the oil from the field.

But there are many reasons to doubt that global warming is taking place.  The last Little Ice Age lasted approximately 250 years and ended in the 1840s.  The earth has essentially been warming since then so global warming is old news.  Almost all the temperature increases happened before 1950.  The temperature has changed only 0.1 deg Celsius since 1980.  A lot of the warming is in Siberia and Canada which are places that could use a little warmer weather.  You have a temperature cycle between the northern and southern hemispheres.  Right now the northern hemisphere is getting warmer and the southern hemisphere colder.  Polar melting has occured in the past at the north pole but few comments were made about it.  There are also variations in the earth's orbit which cause a long term temperature cycle.  Another thing that I always wondered about is how accurate were the themometers that weathermen used 100 years ago.  Accurate temperature recordings only go back 150 years and readings weren't taken in many places.  During the Dallas heat wave in 1998(?) I noticed the temperature was 112F in Dallas but at one location it was 122F.  These locations are all within 50 miles of each other.  The themometers used to make temperature measurements in the USA were moved many times during the last 100 years.  Most temperature readings are now taken at airports which are surrounded by asphalt and no trees making the readings higher than they were in the past when they were in more bucolic locations.  A forrest is much cooler than a grassy field.  Are we worrying about warming that is only localized to the city or its airport?  There are tremendous temperature differences in the Phoenix area between the desert and nearby irrigated crop fields and it generates a lot of strong thermal activity.  And does the sun always generate the same amount of heat?  Some scientists don't think so.  And perhaps the main point: Does a scientist get a big research grant if he says the world is getting warmer and thus a crisis is about to occur, or by saying don't worry everything is OK?  I think the answer is the money goes to the guy claiming a crisis.

When the global climate conference was in Brazil, which preceded the Kyoto meeting the conclusion was that there was no agreement on which way the world climate was going, but after the meeting  a group changed the wording of the summary report to imply that the world was getting warmer and that action must be taken.  The environmentalists had even more say in the final report at Kyoto but that doesn't mean the coclusion was balanced.

In summary, I think the world may be getting warmer but it is very likely a natural change that people have little to do with except by the creation of large metropolitan areas.

Just my 2 cents.

You have many good points. Those who claim there has taken place a  global warming say that we will notice it first and foremost in the polar regions, and especially in winters. I'm living in the polar region, and for many winters it has really been extraordinary warm. We have had many winters without or with only a little snow. In these years it was talked and written about it that we were seeing the result of global warming. Then suddenly this winter gets extremely cold, many degrees under normal, and in spite the fact that we are having a lot of snow, both the last summer and winter have been extremely dry with stable and good weather. This is not was expected. They told us we would get a milder climate with rain and storm. What we really have got is a more dry climate with less rain, dry and cold winters and dry and warm summers. This year we haven't heard a word from those   prophets who are proclaiming a warmer, more stormy and more wet climate.

There are some Danish scientists that haven found some evidence that the climate is changing because of solar activity. The solar activity influence on how much clouded it is on the planet, and they have registered that there are coincidence between these two factors, solar activity and clouds. That theory explains why the  weather is like it is.
