i was having problems viewing thumbnails of RW. Instead of an image i would get a red x. It seems to be solved by changing my RWIN.

On a 512k connection my settings are

MTU - 1458
MSS - 1418

RWIN - 43968
TTL - 128
my average ping is 87ms

Check out www.dslreports.com/tweaks for more info.

You can make changes to your registry or download drtcp at

http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html

quick guide -

1.Go to dslreports and do the tweak test. Make a note of your average ping (latency).

2. Go here and calculate your RWIN

http://www.dslnuts.com/bitsbytes.shtml

bandwith- your connection speed e.g 512 for a  512k connection or 1000 for a 1mb line.

latency - your average ping as reported by dslreports.

MSS - 1418 ( most ISP use cisco routers which have  a MTU of 1458. MSS = MTU - 40 ).

3. calculate your optimal RWIN and enter that figure into DRTCP.

The configuration of DRTCP is at

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/578

Use a MTU of 1458.

P.S
Ignore the RWIN recommendations of dslreports, use the one you calculated at bitbyes.

I use a free ware program called "Tweak All".  It is available here http://www.codeforge.co.uk/mainframes.htm  .
It also lets you change alot of other windows settings that can speed your computer up slightly.

Don't expect to see some huge boost in the speed of your modem, but if you are using settings from your old dial up connection you should see a modest performance gain.
