... in response to Thai arrives tomorrow, posted by Lori on Mar 11, 2002We're all very happy for you!
Just a funny story about the reservedness of Asians: A Japanese/American couple friend of ours (actually the people who introduced us) who, just after they were married, decided to go back to Japan to visit the wife's family who sha hadn't seen her family since in over 20 years, since she was a teenager. (Long, complicated story) Anyway, the American husband expected the family to throng around her, jumping up and down, having not seen her for so long, but exactly the opposite was true. The family all lned up, tallest to shortest, and with an expressonless look on their faces, one at a time, slowly bowed and said in a low voice "o-kairi nasai" (a very calm way of saying "welcome home")
Don't worry Thai will adapt quickly. Most Asians find that Americans exhibit a charming, childlike enthusiasm, so find it difficult at first to join-in, especially whe it's with strangers. But he'll catch on quickly, first with you, then your family, then later on with friends and acquaintences.

PS: You'd better send me pictures to post on the Asian Sweetie website! I'm thinking of starting a "Latest Wedding" page on the site showing whoever was most recently married BEGINNING WITH YOU AND THAI!
