WOW!!! I still can't believe it. Only about 3 years ago, I decided that I was going to marry a man from southeast asia. And now here I am, about to take one of  the biggest steps of my entire life.
My emotions have gone from running around the house, jumping up and down like a kid on christmas morning--to that feeling you get in the pit of your stomache right before you sit your butt down in the dentists chair.
My mother has come around. I don't know if you all remember that she was utterly shocked at the idea of me marrying a man from another country. But here she is, planning a big pizza party at her house in a week, and also helping out hugely with the wedding reception, and worrying if he's going to like her.
Oh yeah--how hard is it to plan a wedding in just 2 short months?? Very hard, but I did it. I have the dress, the beer, the cake, the dj---I still feel there is something missing---OH YEAH, the groom!! I had set the  reception date and booked everything in hopes that he would actually be here by that time.
I hate to say this. But vietnamese people can be very vague about almost everything. First he was going to arrive on sunday(noone knew exactly what time) and now just about 6 days ago(after I had already put in my vacation time) they informed me it would not be untill tuesday. So here I sit for 2 days at home with nothing to do but arrange my house and rearrange my house and worry "is everything perfect". Oh yeah, did I mention he is coming tomorrow and at 10:30, but we still don't know the flight #....yup that's  the vietnamese way, I had better get used to it---or go crazy trying to fight it--haha!!!
Well, what matters most is that he IS coming and I love him with all my heart. I love his family and his culture. I love the way he looks at my with his head bent down and his eyes looking up and says "I'm too shyly." I tell ya, it just melts my heart!!
I was sitting around with my family the other day. We are a loud bunch. And everyone talks at the same time. And we laugh untill we are amost rolling on the floor. It suddenly made me wonder what Thai is going to think of us all. His family is so reserved and shy. He might just think we are all crazy and either be scared out of his witts or he'll totally enjoy it.
I don't know, but here I sit 6:00 am my hearts pounding and I am remembering about 50 things I still need to do before he arrives.
Thanks again EVERYONE and a special thanks to those guys who accepted me totally on this board. I really do believe that this board played a big part in Thai's approval. And if anything it helped the waiting game go by more easily.
I'll be very busy the next week---hehehe--well anyways--wish us luck!!

Hi Lori,

Congradulations and best wishes to you and Thai.  May the future hold goods things for the two of you. :-)

I have a question, or rather some questions, regarding the statement you made about your mom being shocked about you marrying a foreigner.  What were some of the things you encountered when you made your announcement?  How long did it take for your family to accept your decision?  Did Thai's family have some or any of the same objections as your family did?

Thanks,

yc

I sure hope Thai doesn’t get lost at the airport! But I’m sure you’ll find him O.K. :-)

How are the girls taking all of this? Are they as excited as you are?

Anyway, I’m with Dave H. This sounds like as good an excuse as any to have a celebration. I think squid pizza and San Miguel sounds appropriate.

Congratulations on making it this far Lori. I wish all the best for both of you.

For Thai: Welcome to America! Make sure you treat Lori Very, Very, Very well. She’s special to us.
