... in response to I-134 and I-864, posted by DaveWT on Feb 20, 2002Which type visa are you petitioning for? For the K-1 (Fiancé) or K-3 (Spouse), you won’t need to submit the I-864 until after she arrives here. If you are going straight I-130 (Spousal) all the way, then you will submit the I-864 to the NVC before they approve your petition and pass it to the overseas consulate.
The I-134 is normally not requested any longer, unless perhaps you need a co-sponsor to qualify for the minimum income requirements. With the K-1 and K-3 visas, they will ask for evidence of financial responsibility (most recent tax return, evidence of employment, and current income) when the application is submitted to the consulate. There should be no need to document your assets unless you are retired, unemployed, or your income from employment is insufficient.
My advice is to submit only what they require. There is no need to submit an I-864 until they ask for it.
