... in response to Good read, but won't repost it..., posted by BrianN on Apr 6, 2002The poster sounds like a nice guy. And it sounds like he was generous in many ways (car, classes, trips home). But to me it sounds as though he had unreasonable expectations and was all too eager to renege on his marriage vow. Or more exactly, he wasn't willing to put forth the effort required after he was no longer enamored by her beauty. Consider that he was only with her for 6 months - 24 weeks (and only married 16 weeks). And of that time she was gone home twice. Surely these trips together lasted at least 3, probably 4 weeks. So now we're down to about 20 weeks that she is actually "in country". And during that time she is taking ESL classes, keeping the house, and cooking (and doing it "very well"). And apparently she was learning to drive as well. Just how fast did he expect her to adjust, anyway?
A remark that bothers me:
"We threw our hat in the ring, gave it a shot, but came up short."
It just seems flippant. Perhaps it is just his writing style but the rest of his story didn't suggest it to me. This guy may have had very valid reasons for divorcing this lady but he certainly didn't state them. I would love to hear her side of the story.
