I was planning a trip to see two women that I've been corresponding with, one in Davao and one in Indonesia (I know my profile says I'm mostly interested in Eastern Europeans but I'm open to any possibility).

Last night, as I was making plans for the trip, I checked the travel advisory warnings and found that there are warnings about both areas.

how safe is travel to these countries right about now?  Should I postpone my plans until things cool down?  Any advice on safety if I do go now (other than the obvious in not taking any excursions to Jolo island)?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, JLA,

Davao is relatively safe for tourists right now despite some of the bad publicity.  Kreeger just visited Davao recently and even stayed in Mati ( Northern Davao).  Just now, Humabdos is spending a few weeks here till early February.  If you intend to make a visit, I suppose its safe.  Especially so, if you just stay within the city.  It might not be too safe, though, to travel towards the Cotabato provinces especially if you're intending to spend a few days there.

If you're pushing through with your trip, let me know how I can be of help.

I would think that if you stayed in Davao you would be okay.  Besides Humabdos there is also a man in Davao who posts on this board at times.  His name is RGG (I think).  But stay out of western Mindanao.

I do think I'd be a little skeptical of indonesia right now.

Best of luck.

The handle "rgg" is a guy who lives in Davao and owns a business there.... he is a Filipino. I think Humabdos' handle is Mr Kabalaka or something like that.

I just came back from a 2-week stay in Davao and had no problems. A guy who is a frequent poster on this board (Humabdos) is there at this very moment for a 2 week stay as well. Read the "terrorists" thread below... it gives good advice and should answer all your questions.
