They are looking for the date when your correspondence started and evidence that there is an ongoing relationship. They like to see the first letters and at least a good sampling from throughout the correspondence period. The advantage of snail mail letters in the original envelope is that there is an official postmark that helps verify dates. The INS and State Dept people are aware that e-mail and on-line chat is replacing the old fashioned letter method of correspondence, so they will take that into account. Also, be aware that they just may read all those letters you submit, so be careful which ones you give them. It’s not very likely that they will read them all, but it’s happened before and could be quite embarrassing. If there are any letters or cards sent between you and your fiancée’s family, and vice-versa, that would be a big help also.
