The delay is unusual.  But the rest sounds normal.  3 years tax returns if you did not already supply them with the affidavit of support, any info about a criminal past, all that is normal.  Even the notice that the interview will be videotaped.  That does not mean they actually will, but dress nice anyway just in case.

I got choices.

1. Move over to military (C-17 in Long Beach, CA).
2. Move over to satellite payloads (Hughes in El Segundo or Rockedyne in Seal Beach).
3. Screw it all and jump ship.  Maybe get a job in the Far East or Europe.  I hear Fairchild Dornier in Germany might need experienced engineers.  And there are plenty of companies in Tokyo that could use someone who understands English techno-babble.

Thanks for your concern.  But if I can't find a better job in another country, I'd rather stay here.  As sucky as L.A. is, I really like the weather. :-)
