We decided to avoid the Christmas rush and go to Baq for the week of Thanksgiving. She had a chance to visit her family that she hasn't seen for 5 months. Arriving in usa last June was my wife's first time away from "Mommy". We spent a night at El Prado, and the rest in her bedroom. This was a family visit. We basically hung out at her house and watched the parade pass by from behind an 8 foot wrought iron fence. They gotta nice size tile patio. Her family lives only a block from the main strip. Everything passes by from horse and buggy vendors to 4 passenger "motos".

We had dinner at a cousin's house. I drank some home squeezed juice with water that was boiled. Had ice in it too. I didnt ask if the cubes were pre-boiled. I got sick again. Another good case of Colombian slush-pants. Its always the last two days that Monty seems to stop by. Spent most of the last day on the can. i'm sure all of you as do i try hard to avoid water of any kind. But i forget for a second and popped in a mouthful while i was brushing my teeth also. So, the question is how much "bad water" is enough to give you the runs? This is my seventh trip to Baq. Does the gringo system ever become geared to handle el agua?

Do an arcive search on Cipro (ciproflaxin)

I always have it in my "botica bag" and buy it in Peru.
Maybe you should take one pill a day with your luck.

Jimmy,

I would not recommend Cipro because of the many negative side effects associated with its use.  Look at the following web sites for further information.

It's not just the water Spanky but can also be the food that you ate that caused your bad case of "Hershey squirts".

An informational site regarding the causes, effects, and how to avoid this problem can be found on the following web site.

A worldly Anthropologist told me what he does when he goes to a new country. He goes and gets some of the local yogurt and eats it. It contains all of the local bacteria that your system will need to fight off the bad guys. I have done this when i go to SA and have not had any problems. I do try to be careful but given some of the things i have eaten and drank there it must work. Give it a try. If nothing else you have eaten something healthy!!!!

It's not the water. It's YOU! hehehe!

In over ten years of travel to Colombia, I have never gotten sick once. But, I have to admitt that I have never downed a big glass of tap water. I don't drink tap water in the states either.

didnt drink any tap water dude. I use bottled water to to brush my teeth in Baq. Even at home, the only time tap water enters my mouth is when i splash it inside to rinse after brushing. I'm just wondering if thats enough to get sick.

I didn't have any problem with the water in BAQ, but I think the Dann has the water treated.  Did buy an orange juice off the street and no problem either.

Never have had a problem with the water in BAQ, Cali, Cartagena, or Bogota.  I have bought fruit juice from vendors on the street with no problem (mostly in BAQ, but I am careful with the vendor i buy from).  I don't buy food on the street.  and I dont buy peeled fruit on the street.  Wouldn't do that in central america tho',  btw never had a problem with the water in cuba.  Be safe....

Depends on what you have been exposed too and what your stomach is capable of handling.  been to TJ (Tijuana, Mexico) many times, made the mistake once of eating some ice that wasn’t shipped in from the border, we call it here "Montezuma’s revenge” all the night clubs in TJ either buy it from a plant where its treated or bring it over from the border, cant make money if your 18 year old drinkers are in the bathroom the whole time.

Rinsing your mouth out with tap water from BQ isn’t a problem, done it many times but avoids salads washed with tap water, local ice, unless it’s from a nice hotel or upscale restaurant, and try to avoid the local juice drinks.

I never get sick from the water in Colombia (Medellin, Bogota, Monteria, Covenas, Lorica) and I drink it everywhere I go. I don't avoid the water at all and drink it just as I do here with no ill effects. As Avispa says it may be a BAQ problem.

This seems to be a BQ problem.
I've never worried about the water in Bogota.
