Just wondering if anyone thinks perhaps New Years is a good time to visit Colombia? I was planning a trip for that time & am trying to decide whether to do that or go visit the ex in laws in Ukraine & shop around over there.

There are two problems.

1. fare/hotel will be high (if you can even get any seats)

2. if you plan on meeting the ladies, many will be unavailable due to their visiting relatives ritual

Hey Frank,
I'll be in Colombia from Dec 22- Jan 9th. I am planning to spend Christmas with a friend in Cali, and then see how the week goes there. I may still try and go over to Cartagena or Santa Marta for New Years. I'll finish up the last 4 or 5 days in Bogota. I'll be visiting some girls I met on my last 2 trips there, and meeting some new girls also. I may drop into some of the agencies, but so far I haven't needed them. I wish you an excellent trip!!!

Bill~

One of my first trips I left Miami the day after Christmas to visit Bogota for two weeks. Got great price on airfare. The only down side was that many women I had an interest in left town prior to New Years for family trip or get together out of town. Most gone one or two weeks. Did not deter my having a good time and meeting others, just made it a little more work. My primary consideration was that this was a convenient time for me to be away from my business. Let us know what you decide.

That's the same everywhere I guess then. They already have plans or are out of town. I'll see probably within a week.

i travelled a few days before new years, got a great fare and had a wonderful time. many people have off until mid jan so you'll have a better chance of meeting women who are available to go out and do things and not have to worry about work.

First the half:  It helps to know where you want to visit.

1.  You have probably waited too late to find a plane reservation during that time.  If you do get lucky it WILL be expensive.  Nope, don't ask.  No way to avoid this problem.

2.  In Cartagena and Santa Marta this will be super high season and it would not be unusual for room rates to double and the same problem with availability.

Not that much problem visiting other cities but remember, like the USA, everything will be closed the day before and on Christmas (Christmas is on Sunday so their will be closings Monday).  Like Holy Week this will be a family time so don't look for a lot of action over say a three day period.

If it makes you feel any better NEW YEARS ROCKS, and Cali has a hell-of-a fair(Feria de Cali)from December say December 25 to January 1.

Starts with a huge horse parade called the Cabalgata   about 1 in the afternoon on December 25.  The bull fights also start and run until early January. There are 50 or so salsa bands, which perform day and night. Other events include a beauty pageant to select Seņorita Cali, sports competitions, salsa and tango contests, lots of parades.  Loaded with chicas and is one of the top three Colombian events of the year.

Late December is one of the best times to visit Cali.  All the energy, lights, sights and sounds.  Everyone is happy, 24 hr rumba, and the beautiful women just come out of the woodwork and are more prevalent than usual.  Man I wish I could be there this year.  Here's the lineup from the 2002 Cali Feria, along with some pictures to give you an idea of how much fun can be had:

On New Years, everyone visits their families and light the ano viejo(I know I didn't put the accent), but after midnight, ALL the hotties are off to the clubs, it's absoluetly crazy! From what I recall Fran, usted habla espanol, te aseguro que vas a tener un tiempo que no te olvidaras jamas!  Keep us posted. -TNC

That's not much of a "problem" as I have my ticket I previously purchased for Aug & couldn't make that trip. Cali sounds interesting!
