Hello Everyone,

I am actually trying to get more details on this. In a way I am glad that times are changing and the laws are being put in place to help protect some of these women.

However, I am not happy that they are so narrow minded and not making changes to benefit both parties. There are things that need to be addressed on the other side as well. I hate to say it but Ithink the whole process should be a sponsorship visa and if the parties decide to get married then slow down the whole residency thing. In my first marriage In 1990 it took us 5 years to get her residency. I feel this would eliminate a majority of the problems. If the process took a long time then people wouldn’t waste their time trying to cheat the system. I feel there should be an evaluation process and then a sponsorship visa approval process. Then a long wait for the final residency.

I just spoke to a friend that I haven’t spoken to in a couple of months and got a rude awakening of what potentially could happen to any one of us. I'll give you a short version of the whole story.

Keep in mind I have known my friend Javier for 15 years. He is not an abuser.

Javier goes to Cali for the first time in October of 2003. He meets a girl sets her up and begins to financially support her. He then goes back several months later to ask her to marry him. Files all the paperwork and successfully brings her here.

Within 3 months time, she was able to build several police reports against him and seek asylum with Immigration and keep herself from ever being deported without needing him to complete her citizenship. He was at work the whole time while she was telling police he fled because she called them. She even told police that he carries a weapon which he has never owned. This woman is being protected under the Spousal Abuse Privileges Act or something like that. She had knowledge of this and planned this whole thing. Javier is truly a nice sincere level headed guy.

How can anyone really avoid this? And if every woman in a foreign country knew this what would be the resolution to protect our rights. How can we ever prove anything. We all know that the laws already benefit the women here more than the men as it is.

Is there anything Javier can do?

 Regards, Mike

If one needs a WARNING it should come before using this whack's sevices.

Spanky,

I think you meant to say www.yourlatinwife.com referring to Michael's not opened yet agency, and not www.latin-wife.com, Jamie's agency in BNQ.

BTW, Michael, were you ever a client of Jamie's agency?

I understood your point, just thought I would make sure that the agency you mentioned didn't confuse the newbies.

javier can wake up and use this experience to learn things that have been mentioned here numerous times for free and without the drama. i'm not against laws that protect women from a**holes that marry latinas thinking they are nothing more than sex slaves and servants. these guys exist, are great at deception and will do anything to convince women to marry them only to make their wives lives impossible. however, cases  like these are like the evening news, we only hear the horror stories and i feel that there are many more cases where the couple live happy lives. deception on both sides can exist and spread when couples don't take the time to know each other. there are women and men who are crafty, self centered, who only think of themselves and will do anything to get what they want. if javier got taken, i don't feel sorry for him, he's just another who didn't fly down often enough to talk to her family, friends, co workers. we have an advantage here in that we have the chance to know our women before making a decision but many times we don't use that opportunity. we become smitten by a great smile, great body and throw caution to the wind, hoping that with lots of luck we don't get screwed. would we do that here? we spend more time researching our next car purchase or hdtv than the women we plan on marrying. in contrast, these women cannot do the same. they cannot make muliple trips to meet the guys family, his friends and even if they could, what could she find out if she doesn't speak english? javier made the mistake of pulling out his wallet too soon, winning her over with money rather than personality and it sounds like he didn't bother to spend time with her in her world to see if she was legit.

I think your proposals are unnecessary and unfair. You just can’t expect the government to protect everyone from themselves. If a guy is just too dumb or too pig-headed to use common sense and good judgement when entering into one of these marriages, then he maybe he should just stay home.

To suggest that the whole process should be slowed down even further so that a few guys can make up their mind if they really want to be in this relationship or not is ridiculous, IMHO. Do you really want to punish everyone else because a few guys don’t know what the hell they are doing? Where is the fairness in that? I think the system is already slow enough (LOL).

You said “I feel there should be an evaluation process and then a sponsorship visa approval process. Then a long wait for the final residency.”

I don’t know what you mean by an “evaluation process”. Before a foreign fiancée or spouse can get a visa, he/she has to pass an screening and interview process to weed out the visa scammers. It’s not perfect, but I think it catches most of them. To delay the visa process even more to evaluate whether the couple will be compatible or not (if that’s what you had in mind) is just silly. Do you really want the government to get involved in your selection of spouses???

“Sponsorship visa approval process”? What’s that all about? Please elaborate.

As far as a “long wait” for final residency, what do you consider “long”? The system already includes a minimum two-year marriage period before the foreign spouse can get unconditional residency. Do you feel that 2 years of marriage isn’t long enough to weed out the scammers? IMO, if you can’t figure it out within two years of living together as man and wife, then you will NEVER figure it out.

The whole reason that the government made allowances for battered spouses to gain residency on their own is because there were a number of ass-holes out there threatening their foreign wife with deportation if she busted him for abuse. That’s where folks need to direct their anger at the loopholes in the system; at the abusive and controlling idiots who tried to use the immigration laws to threaten their wife.

Is there anything Javier can do? Sure! Tell him to stay home so he won’t get hurt again. :-)

Well, Due to the all of the cases and issues the system has now. Something needs to be done.

I only hope that more women do not learn about this. Because face the facts. The majority of these women are only interested in one thing. bettering themselves.

They will do what ever it takes to acheive that goal.

The first thing to do is shut down the scam marriage agencies that ripoff people.

It looks like you have policed yourself right out of business.  In fact you have never even developed your website.  Last we hear you were running around Colombia pretending to save the girls from the gringos who abuse them.  Really no one knows what you are trying to do.

Sounds very fishy to me.

I have little simpathy for guys that marry women that don't even like them let alone love them. If you don't know the difference between a woman that is and isn't into you then you shouldn't go to Colombia.

Hell I think a could make a good arguement for you never leaving the house.

I bet a dollar and a donut that guy didn't follow rule number ONE.

Young beautiful colombianas are rather short sighted if you ask me. If they aren't into you and you aren't buying them crap, they'll leave sooner rather than later.

If they are really and truely beautiful I think that it would be safe to say that if you are having sex with them everyday for a week or more that you can probably safely buy them something withont ruining the relationship.

If they are older and more desprerate (over thirty with a child), I would suggest that you have sexual relations with one for a month or more before buying them anything. With age and desperation comes long range planning. Because god only knows you don't want to end up like Spanky. hehehe!!!
