Hey guys,
Like probably a lot of you I'll be in Colombia for Christmas and New Years. Planning to spend Christmas with some friends in Cali, and have a few new ladies to meet there. I'm thinking to go over to the coast for New Years- any advice on where to stay and what to do in Santa Marta? I was in Cartagena in September and had a great time, and wanted to see more of the coast this trip. Also looking for the best party spot to ring in the new year!

Thanks- Bill

New Years is a lot different in LA. They do not "RING" in the new years like we do.I was surprised at this as well. It is more of a family thng. Santa Marta might be happening, but i would say Cartagena would be more rocking then SM.

rental will be hard to find and VERY expensive.  Prices will almost triple.  Next to Holy Week this is the REAL prime ime. High season is 12/15 to 1/15; Holy Week and 6/25/7/25.  For example a rental in one place on Car. 3, two bedroom, two baths about 1200 sq feet will jump from $50.000 a night to $150.000 pesos a night.(I am assuming you mean El Rodadero and not Santa Marta proper).  I am sure places like La Escollera, the Tamaca Hotel and San Alejó and some other will be jumping as well as the boardwalk , Car 1,.will be hopping.  Your BIG problem will be airline reservations.  I would be willing to bet you would be hard pressed to find anything like MIA/Bog(change)/SMR during that times for less that say $1200 USD.

Good luck but try Santa Marta at another time.  If I was going to parry I would head to Cartagena but I am going to sit my culo right here in Bogotá
