I live in South Florida (Broward County).  I do not have power.  East of me had power yesterday.  South of me in North Dade had power yesterday.  My employer, also in Broward,, though officially closed until Sunday 10/30, has power.  I am using my office computer to send this message.

The news reports that as of last night, about one third of customers, 1.2 million, have had power restored, leaving about 2.5 million customers still with power in all of South Florida.  Customers are households and businesses, not individuals.

MIA and FLL are operating.  Check with your individual airline.  Many hotels and restaurants, especially in Miami Beach, are open and operating.  You will have problems getting a taxi due to difficulty getting gasoline.  They also might price gouge you.  The cruise lines are operating and the ports are open.

Note that there are a few electric power companies in SF, FPL being the largest.  The other smaller ones have their power lines underground and have already restored power to 100% of their customers.  These companies operate in the Keys and south of Naples.

Hey Papi,

I don't know about Miami itself, but I have ties about 100 miles away in the Naples area. They have power there and just a bunch of trees and shingles floating around. A couple of business signs are down too. I hear it was good enough to make a mess, but not do to much damage to residential areas.
They say Charley was worse, if that helps as a guage?

Sorry if this may not help too much, it's all I have and just want to return a favor for your previous info.

V-Dude

P.S.
Before submitting this post I checked my email and I just got one from someone in that area. They are talking about life as usual so??? I imagine all is well.

Vdude, the east coast of FLA fared far worse than Naples...Broward is in terrible shape. Curfews, long lines to get ice/water and food, no power, debris in the roadways. Dade is not much better but i think things might be improving somewhat yet I do not know.
