If any of you need encouragement to come to Colombia in December, here it goes:
1. One of the things I enjoy the most is "El aņo viejo"  It's a toy of the size of a regular person, filled with hay and fireworks, people dress aņos viejos up with regular clothes and shoes, then at midnight on Dec 31st, they burn them up, as as sign of burning the old year and starting fresh.
2. At midnight you might see some people stuffing their mouth with grapes (they have to eat 12 grapes in a minute and makes 12 wishes)
3. Everybody will wear yellow underwear in New year's eve,
4. A shower of champagne at midnight is the best to have good luck thoughout the year
5. People paint streets with Feliz Aņo signs,
6. The city decoration is just beautiful, in some parts of the city (Cali) they decorate entire blocks, every house is decorated with lights (I think they do this in the US as well)
7. The atmosphere is great, you can feel that everybody is happy, in some houses they start setting up all the Christmas trees and light in about 2 week, and they leave them up until the second week of January.
What do you think,
Chaooo

My past Christmas seasons in Colombia have been some of the best in my life.  You forgot to add:

1. Noche de las Velitas
2. Remeber only green grapes
3. Kids dressed up as diablos and pregnant women going around the barrio playing the drums and dancing for monedas
4. Getting invited to all of your neighbors houses for a drink and a tamale
5. Dancing till the sun rises on Noche Buena will all the family members and neighbors.
6. Hugs from total strangers telling you Feliz Aņo

Oh, and the yellow thong, to bring good luck in the coming year.  Ahhh, better stop as I'm starting to bum myself out. -TNC

Yes, dia de las velitas is great, is celebrated in Dec 7th, and the candle lights all over the city is just beautiful,
The yellow underwear is supposed to bring good luck and prosperity in the new year,
but the best thing is on new year's eve, after giving your best wishes to all your realtives and friends then you go to take a walk around the block to give your best wishes to the neighbors as well,

Querida Carolina;

1.) "dia de las velitas is great"
It is greater if you light up a Colombian Cigar Wink

2.) "The yellow ...(thong)... is supposed to (attract)" crazy animals like me toward caleņas lindas like you.

3.) "...then you go to take a walk around the block to give..." your amigAs a good time.

What a way to start the new year... Tongue

Maybe the color helps conceal bladder drizzle after too many hours of celebratory toasts.

yellow underware is worn on new years eve to disguise any "personal accidents" that may occur when drinking too much! Smiley

Carolina;
Will you be wearing a yellow thong?

One more question: Are you La Niņa Diosa??? Because looks like you appear once in a while in this board.
