Folks,

A number of you reported success with using those services to find Latina pals prior to visiting Colombia (or other LA countries). It has been reported that the ladies (from LA) contacted you. Now I am curious as to how you placed your personal add? Did you indicate that you live in Cali, Colombia (or any other LA country) or else how did those ladies discover you? I doubt that they would browse US locations for profiles written in English.

Hey Tulip,

I too posted a personal ad on both Amigos.com and Match.com. I had far more success on Amigos. My ad was in spanish, I had a friend whose first language was spanish assist with the translation. I indicated that I lived in Las Vegas.

I had many women write to me first, but to be truthful, many of those were unsuitable for one reason or another, a common thread was it was obvious that they did not read my ad at all and were just writing hoping to land a sucker.  I did write many women with my poor spanish and had a very decent response rate.  I finally wound up with a woman from venezuela who was living in North Carolina. We met, spent much time together and after a few months found that it just wasn't working and parted as friends.

I'm now in correspondence with a very sweet woman from Medellin who speaks excellent english. I'm planning a visit to Colombia in February, but at the same time, I intend to have plan a,b,c, d etc and not put all my eggs in one basket.

As many people have mentioned on this forum, chatting, email, phone conversations, webcams are great, but until you actually meet in person, everything is a crapshoot. But if you never roll the dice, you will never win.

I went with Amigos.com. I put my profile up and got some responses but I
started looking and sent e-mails out to anyone I saw that I thought might fit
what I was looking for in a woman. Some responses were pretty weird, some the
woman were lying about their age or something else. The woman that I married
sent me her pic from Barranquilla and I started to write her every night I came
home. One thing I did find is alot of these woman write a ton of guys until they
cut out the bad apples which there is a ton of them.

   My sister inlaw was writing some turd from Wales that started telling her he
loved her in a week. I told her to be careful because the guy sounded like a
crack pot. He showed his true colors very fast when he disappeared for 4 days
and when he did a reappearing act he claimed his job sent him to London and
he could not find the time to e-mail her. Well she sent him packing, I think he
might have been on a drinking binge or something like that.

unless you want to find girls who speak english, it would be dumb to put your profile only in english. my profile in amigos.com was both in english and spanish, because i knew my target audience. i got great respsonses, dated many girls here and in colombia, eventually meeting my fiancee through the amigos. girls will browse and write to you so make your profile as appealing as possible, they do browse through the profiles of men in colombia and countries outside colombia.

i recently discoved that a good friend of mine and I are corresponding with the same woman he met on amigos and i met through another friend. she does not know that we know. goes to show you that you may not be the only one she is writing at least in the beginning. i have had limited success on amigos, i think some of the other sites are better but frankly i prefer just to get on the plane since i live in miami and it is so close. but writing  works great for a lot of guys. suerte

cypercupidos... Before i came to COL i shot out maybe 20 emails and got maybe 4 or 5 response, and of those maybe 2 or 3 that actually wanted(eventually) met.  But this saturday while staying at pete's place(free 24 yr internet) and several of my amigas was either out of town(because of festivo on monday) or busy with family.  I had no dates, i decide maybe to use this downtime just go out with one guy staying here(he didn't have date either) and fish on the internet for later this week or next week.

So i sent out about 15 emails on cypercupido, basically saying to the gals,"hey i'm in town for class and work and i been exploring around avienda sexta, but want to know more places.  If you know of any, please tell me and if you have time, maybe we can meet for coffee or drink.."  I sent my all of them at around 5pm.  by 6pm, i got 2 replies, both gave me their number and wanted me to call.  by 8pm i talked w/ both and got a date w/ one, meet her at 9:30 and hangout till 3AM.  Then when I return to pete's a 3am, i got 2 other email, again w/ phone number.   So within 24 hrs i got 4 numbers out of 15, a 25% response rate.  Now i expect another 3 or 4 within the next week as the girls go back to work and school and start checking emails.

This is a better response rate than when i emailed them BEFORE i arrive(even when i say, i'll be in your city next month).  I suspect that when you say you're IN the city, then they feel they're not wasting time with some guy that MAY visit.  Of course in order for this tactic to work, you'll need to be in the city for at least 2 weeks or more.

Maybe modify the tactic a bit further via a white lie:  Send emails out a few days BEFORE departing the States, advising them that you are already in the city.  It might save you a few idle days in country,  waiting for them to respond.

I recommend using www.cybercupido.com  I had a profile on there about a year ago, I had about 3 pages of email.  So much mail I had to turn off my profile.  I did a new profile a few weeks ago and the success is still great.  The cost is only 25 dollars for 3 months, so it's alot cheaper than other dating sites.  My profile states USA and never any LA country.  I use www.translation.paralink.com so it would be in Spanish.
There are 4451 profiles with fotos for Colombia.  Many of the girls don't have a foto listed, so I use 2 MSN Messengers.  Just in case I didn't like their foto, they would not be on my primary messenger bothering me.  I believe on cybercupido the girls can write 2 emails a day for free and they can contact you for free when you are a member.  If you use a couple of sites, say a month before you travel, you should have plenty of phone numbers of girls all over Colombia.  Here are some more sites that work in order of success for me.

Is that Mr Tulip or Ms Tulip?  

For Tulip - A bunch of the marraige agencies (already) offer this service for the guys.... Placing a personal ad or placing the guys photos in an album in the agency.  I am guessing that is how many of them did it before arriving in Colombia.

For the guys - I have heard that the personal adds in newspapers work with mixed results.  However, I never saw and never heard of a girl actually contacting a guy based on seeing his photo and bio in an agency catalogue.  She might check out the catalogue out of curiosity or refer to it if a guy is writing her or comming to visit her, but I have NEVER heard of or seen a latina initiate contact with any guy in an agency catalogue.  For the guys its a waste of money, for the agencies it is a money maker, and for the girls it is just another opportunity that is placed in their hands that they let slip away... (Note: a big part of the reason latinas will not initiate contact is cultural as initiating contact is seen as way to agressive - many of them have already taken a big step by joining an agency, it is up to the guys to come and get them... guys like to hunt... girls like to be hunted...)

When I ran my own personal ad with SOTB/Latin Match, I received around 40 responses in the six months or so that the ad ran. I'm not sure where the ad was seen, agency catalogs, newspapers, or where. The responses came from many different countries in LA. It was far from a waste of money, and plenty of them were "aggressive" enough to initiate contact.

I am almost positive SOTB places ads in newspapers (Dave and his employess have mentioned it to me) and I don't think that his agency goes the catalogue route.  

Not sure what you paid, but getting 40 responses is not bad and a nice alternative for the guys that want to interact with latinas but do not have the time or the money or the desire to travel....

Oh yea, I failed to address the on line dating sites.  My understanding is they work as well or better and cost less than newspaper ads and agency catalogues since the eligible interested girls have already joined on line...  However this medium is ripe for abuse -- who is to prevent a con artist serving jail time from posting a fake bio and some photo he plucked off the internet and screwing with your mind?  

Same deal, the girls will not initiate contact with the guys...  (unless it is Slutvinska from the russian republic looking for a fool and his money...)
