Some facts about hurricaines:
1. A category 5 hurricaine has never hit the COAST OF TEXAS in recorded history
2. A category 5 hurricane has hit the USA only 4 times in recorded history: Katrina, Andrew, Camille, and an unnamed hurricaine back in 1939.
3. A category 5 hurricaine is defined as winds GREATER than 150mph and/or having the ability to cause surges of 18 feet or HIGHER. Therefore, a category 6 hurricaine is not possible by that definition. (I disagree with having a cut-off maximum category)
4. Hurricaine Rita is WELL BEYOND a category 5 with winds at 170mph.
It would be more correctly labeled a category 6 if there was such a thing.
5. Rita is now the most powerful USA hurricaine in recorded history.
6. One reason why we have had TWO Category 5 hurricaines this year alone is partly due to record high temperatures in the gulf, producing A LOT of moisture which partly causes and strengthens hurricaines
7. The gulf coast states are experiencing the largest evacuation in US history.
8. I'm happy I don't live in the gulf but my heart goes out to them and my wallet is already opened for donations.
