MY roomate  Jeese went  to Medellin Sunday. He is running late for his plane, hands me a list of about 10 girls he wants to meet at
Colombian Sweethearts, asks me to E mail it to them, requesting lining up one of them for dinner that night.Jesse gets there,15 miniutes later his Sunday night dinner date shows up.Problem is his Amigo,me screws up the 4 digit code for the girl.He thinks he is getting 28,no kids. What he gets is 45,4 kids.
I laughed my ass off.Sorry guy,not intentional. He said and she REALLY liked me.I bet.
He is dating 3 girls here all with kids, which is not what he is looking for.He says regardless of what I do these kids keep getting  in  the deal.He was trying to take a break from the pressure of that.
He really likes Medellin. He says its not only nice, but everybody keeps saying how nice it is.Everybody loves their city here.
WE talked Yesterday, hopefully its going well today for him.

so if he isnot looking for a girl with kids, then why is he dating 3 girls with kids?  sounds like another gringo that has no idea of what he wants.

Sounds like. Its by default, thats is ALL he is FINDING in Cali. And I think there was even some mistakes where he didn't know immediately.SO thats WHY he is Medellin.KNOWING what you want and finding it are 2 different things. But also, the kids with the Cali women were maybe a possibility. They are all older.16 and 17 I think. The best of the 3 women in my opinion says my son wants to live with his father anyhway, but I have not allowed it,But maybe I will let him if it is that important to you.
Then I screw him up by mistake.
He wants kids of his own.He is 46.I tell him go for under 30,you may find a woman without them who wants them.

You'd be hard-pressed to find inhabitants which are prouder of their city, warts and all. You sure as heck can't say anything bad about it.

Exactly what I experienced a year ago. What Jesse is saying now.Compare that to the immage of the city. Its changed big time since it gots its bad reputation from the Escobar days.
Very clean, very nice,no garbage,no street persons. At least in the El Poblano area.Where I live in Cali,Juanambu, one of the best areas in Cali you can still find a bum sleeping on the sidewalk.I don't know what they do with them in Medellin.
But my friend took the rail line North to take the tram up the mountain. He said he saw the worst Barrios he had ever seen up there. If you go to the Paisa Pueblo,a model of an old village on a little Mountain top south of Downtown Medellin you can look North. All of a sudden the buildings drop down from high rises to shanties, the old part I guess.
A Colombiano I know says Medellin has the best people in Colombia and also the worst people in Colombia.A woman I met last year had an ex husband that was with a Cali Cartel. He made the mistake of goingt to Medellin. The  Medellin Cartel killed him in a most brutal way,cut off his hands and feet. She dated my friend. He said she was spooky, she would say what was that noise, thought it was the guys ghost.
I saw stastistic, its not just perception,Medellin has changed big time.I really like it there. But I am pretty tied in to Cali.
Pablo says the traffic is terrible, which I experienced, and that is with the transit system in place. Its a narrow valley, they biggest street I saw was 4 lanes.Kind of jammed together at the bottom of the hills.
People say its safe to drive out i the country. Its very beautifull out there, green mountains, houses on hills. If I buy a car I will drive there.

I like Medellin too, the people are very friendly and helpful and the security is good.  I've been to Cali, BOG, & MED and I have to say I felt safer in Medellin.  Now i was not in MED 3 or 4 yrs ago, so maybe things were bad then.   I talked w a COL emergency room doctor, who worked in MED for 10 yrs.  He said 10 yrs ago, all the patient that go to the emergency room were victims of bombing, shooting, or stabbing.  Now he said, it's car/motocycle accidents & heart attacks, he said now MED is safest he's seen in over 20 yrs.  Heck, he said when things were really bad in MED, they had gun battle between cops vs FARC or NARCO out in Itagui(a suburb of MED)!  He theorize the improve safety was due to two factors a) more police/army presences and b) economy improving.

Another thing i liked about MED, is lots of tourist stuff to do(zoo, botanica garden, museums, publito paisa, metro cable, bunch of other stuff).  So as a tourist you're not bored during the day like in Cali.

As for traffic, MED is mild compare to BOG or Cali.  I remember taking a taxi in rush hour fr avienda sexta to unicentro, it took 1 hr and 12k peso!  In MED i went the similar distances and it was a little less.  Of course Poblado has bad traffic during rush hour.  One thing MED has for to help w/ traffic is a) Metro and b) autopista, so getting fr one area to another is quick, BUT you'll encounter lots of traffic inside the barrios.

I also notice fr my trip to Cali, that cali economic situation is not good.  Seems like there's too many people and not enough job to sustain the exisitng population.  Especially when the cali cartel and it's appratus got dismantled.  MED has flower and fashion as two big part of it's economy, while Cali is primarily farming/some manufacturing base.  Cali really reminds me of Fresno, CA but with hotter girls!

As for the girls, to meet both cities have lots of hot girls.  BUT one phenomenon was in Cali if when i ask a girl out, she arrives solo.  In MED when i ask a girl out she comes with another girl!  I see it all the time and bars/clubs, one or two guys and 3 or 4 girls, or 1 guy and 2 girls going out.  My amigas tell me there's nothing sexual about it(the guy aint getting threesome), but it's natural.  Every girl and guy i've talked with say there's "mucho chica, pocito chicos", BUT the doctor told me that in the hostpital the number of male babies to girl babies were equal.

I remeber the last time i was in Medellin and was waiting with another gringo at a taki stop. A colombian man was waiting just up the street from us , but he came there after we were there. A taxi came by and stopped to pick up the colombian. The colombian motioned  to the taxi that we were here first and sent the taxi to pick us up first and this was an area where the taxis did not come that often. I mean, that is what you call courtesy. You do not get that in any other colombian city i have been to.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the post.  So, Jesse is in Medellin?  Well, it would be nice if you or he could write a thread about his experiences there.  Since I got to meet Jesse during my visit to Cali in May, I can laugh with you about the mix up on the date.  Jesse seems like a nice guy, but somewhat reminds me of Felix Unger in the Odd Couple.  The guy is comical and a little neurotic to boot! Especially about his food allergies. ha  Well, I wish him well, and I am curious how he compares Cali with Medellin.  I would like to check out Medellin myself.  Hopefully, I can in the not too distant future.  Right now, I am covered up with work.
