Papi did a post called promised land on WLC,basically bemoaning Colombia didn't live up to his expectations.
I indulged myself with some music comments before getting in to the meat of it.

Papi,
"I left my home in Norfork Virginia California on my mind.I stradled that greyhound and rode him in to Raliegh and on across Caroline"
"Promise Land" ,Chuck Berry.
I always liked that song, both the Chuck Berry Version and the much later Elvis version, but I love road songs, like to blast them and hit the gas.One time I am driving a Porshe 928,would do 172 MPH per a magazine track test, fastest street legal car in the US at the time.I am tempted to see if it will do 172 MPH,then remember a line from one of those CB Radio truckers songs,"50 miles over the speed limit, you boys gonna be here awhile."In my case it would have been 107 MPH over ,and longer than awhile.
OK,back to your story, well sort of.I had a all in high school,I majored in cars and girls, worked alot to always have a hot car. Then I got my girlfriend pregnant, married her and life changed.7 years later ,in California,we get divorced.I go out on the Bay Area dating scene, here I am.What I got back was a resounding so what. Its tough there.I had lots of women in my late 20's and 30's but had to work at it and put up with alot of BS.As I got older yet it became pretty much impossible to get the kind of woman I really wanted untill I discovered Colombia. It was like I was back in high school, even better.I knew day one here I would keep at it untill I found what I wanted and when that didn't work there was no doubt where to head back to  again.
BUT,BUT,that does not mean than any guy can get the best looking hottest woman and she is going to be serious about him.You might get her temporsarily and be sorry you did.EVEN HERE,where its MUCH BETTER,THERE ARE LIMITS AND REALITY.Much better reality than the US,but still reality.
SO,unless you are Brad Pitt or have lots of money you want to part with for temporary pleasure,a guy just might want to back off a notch from the hottie user girls who get most all the attention to a huge group of women getting almost none.Alot of these women are still very good looking, way better than we would EVER get in the US.
So don't disregard them. There can be a sparkling quality that does not photograph. And affection and feminity and sweetness and even an innocence.LOTS,LOTS to choose from. For me I have had all the disinterest I ever wanted from women. If they don't seem interested,or there are questionable strories and they are hard to get together with I just say bye,no matter how good looking.Getting jacked around is not an experience I wish to have any more.I got lots of it in California, but here there are so many options.I just move on.Excuse me,I think you misnderstood me for the gringo sucker I used to be.The guy who gets off the plane with the big "S" on his forhead.
So,don't give up.Keep keeping on.And if you are getting so what don't complain. The world is giving you feedback. You just went OVER YOUR HEAD,or just picked the wrong one.If it happens alot, probably over your head. Move on to others more likely to be interested in you.
God its so much better than the US so what if you have to move one notch off hottie.AND,I can tell you from my experience one notch off hottie is alot hotter in bed and alot more in to pleasing you than aren't you so lucky to have me.
So don't wine or complain,MODIFY your search. That can include different cities and agencies, but DON'T EXPECT SOME AGENCY TO PERFORM MIRACLES FOR YOU.They BASICALLY INTRODUCE YOU,do not guarantee your success with any woman you choose.Where lots of guys go wrong is since they can get some attention from the hottie they think they are a real candidate, then what the F- - k happened and on and on.You were probably over your head.
The ball is in your court senor.I suggest you forget the why fors and catch a plane,or plan when you can.And I still like Cali.More of EVERY kind of girl except maybe english speaking professionals, that would be Bogota.

the Dead does a version so I listened to it twice and was thinking about posting the lyrics but then got sidetracked by my hatred of the Belgians.

I left my home in norfolk virginia,
California on my mind.
Straddled that greyhound, rode him past raleigh,
On across caroline.

Stopped in charlotte and bypassed rock hill,
And we never was a minute late.
We was ninety miles out of atlanta by sundown,
Rollin’ ’cross the georgia state.

We had motor trouble it turned into a struggle,
Half way ’cross alabam,
And that ’hound broke down and left us all stranded
In downtown birmingham.

Straight off, I bought me a through train ticket,
Ridin’ cross mississippi clean
And I was on that midnight flyer out of birmingham
Smoking into new orleans.

Somebody help me get out of louisiana
Just help me get to houston town.
There’s people there who care a little ’bout me
And they won’t let the poor boy down.

Sure as you’re born, they bought me a silk suit,
Put luggage in my hands,
And I woke up high over albuquerque
On a jet to the promised land.

Workin’ on a t-bone steak a la carte
Flying over to the golden state;
The pilot told me in thirteen minutes
We’d be headin’ in the terminal gate.

Swing low sweet chariot, come down easy
Taxi to the terminal zone;
Cut your engines, cool your wings,
And let me make it to the telephone.

Los angeles give me norfolk virginia,
Tidewater four ten o nine
Tell the folks back home this is the promised land callin’
And the poor boy’s on the line

Thats it,and California was the promised land.Which it was economically and weather wise alot.
But not for chicas.Maybe in Southern Ca. a little more for the very young set.The Bay area passed Alaska as the worst place for guys the month I first came to Colombia.A recent artical in a San Jose paper when I was home was entitled "Man Jose",talked about how tough it was for guys.Of course there were some ugly chicas who disagreed it was good for women, but for the halfway attractive woman they have it made.

after my first divorce, I remeber dating in the bay.  I had one cita, first date with a semi-hot chica, that went something like this: meet for dinner in Saratoga, she proceeds to grill me over finances, job, net adjusted income, net worth, schooling, future prospects.  This was all over drinks before dinner.  I not so politely said "this sounds more like a merger than a date, you should have warned me so I could bring my attorney along" and promptly got up and left.  Wow, I don't miss those days at all.

Second rambling, when I was in the Corps, I spent some time stationed at a base in the middle of nowhere, 29 Stumps, anyway ratio of men to women on base 500 to 1. It's no wonder there were so many drunken fights there.
