Hey guys, anyone out there know the maximum weight a piece of luggage can weigh on an Avianca flight from Colombia to the U.S. and not be charged $80 extra?  I've heard 32 kilos (70 lbs).... and I've heard 50 kilos (110 lbs).  Anyone out there that has first hand knowledge of this?  Many thanks in advance!

When I checked in with Avianca in Miami a year ago it was 70lbs.I had 2 bags,94 and 83 lbs.It was $100 I think for the 94 lb one, they let me slide on the 83.I am doing that again tommorow.Today I flew Continental fron San Jose to Ft. Lauderdale. Its 50 lbs with them.I had 2 71.5lb  bags. It was $25 each for being over 50 lbs and would have been another $25 each for being over 75 lbs.I had to shift 2 lbs each to my carry on.They would not let me slide 1.5 lbs.
So far,$50.I think I am OK with Avianca tommorow unless they dropped it some more below 70lbs.

Thank you, Pete.  My fiancee is flying here from Colombia this month and she has a lot of clothes and una maleta muy grande!  I just know it will be over 70 lbs.  I'll send her $40 so she can buy a mid size bag and disperse the weight.  By the way, I have really enjoyed your posts over the last year.  Thanks again!
