Mike,
I really liked Medellin.I could live there. But we haven't had much in the way of success stories there,Seeker's being a welcome exception to that.
Personally I tend to rely on agencies and I pretty much went through the possibilities in the only significant one in town in 4 days.
I know you see lots of attractive women, and it sounds like you met a few.So keep us posted.
And Pablo,I know you like it there, but how is the women situation working out?

"And Pablo, I know you like it there, but how is the women situation working out?"

Hola Don Pedro,

You might have missed my post, "Medellin Musings", but I am finding the Paisa women to be absolutely wonderful.  There is a saying among the small expatriate community here...Every single day you could fall in love in Medellin, because the place is loaded with an abundance of lovely women, many of which are absolutely stunning.  Don't forget that besides Seeker, Nykko and Utopiacowoy found their lovely wives in Medellin.  Also remember not to base your opinion on the lack of success stories as I imagine many happy men that have found their media naranjas couldn’t care less about posting on a forum.

It really is interesting reading some accounts of how the women are hard to meet here as I am finding no difficulty meeting ladies and this without having to rely on the three or so agencies.  They are useful and have their place, but I'm sure you already know that the majority of the women would never consider joining one.

I think all it takes is to have some time on your hands, a positive friendly attitude, know some Spanish, be outgoing, well-mannered, dress sharp, a good sense of humor and for good measure, learn to dance Latin style.  ˇDios Mio!, you will need a secretary to keep all your appointments straight.

Let me elaborate on one of the needed qualities I just mentioned about how important it is to be outgoing.  Too often stateside even the nice guys get shot down in such a competitive environment for the few available sought after women.  Here, it's totally opposite with the odds stacked way in your favor.  Sure you might get rejected by some, but many of these women would be thrilled to have a foreign guy love and cherish them.

At times, I catch myself being a little reserved but force myself to be more assertive because it pays off handsomely if you approach a lady with a little finesse and style.  If there is a little chemistry on her part, dude you have just made it to first base.  I've mentioned this before, but leave the shyness back home.  If one makes this necessary transition without being obnoxious in his approach with the ladies he will learn the muy Paisa saying, "Dios le pague".

You will never guess what age they think an old maid is here.  Would you believe…28-30!  The younger ladies with a kid or two feel about the same as these “over the hill mamacitas” that they too have less of a chance at finding a good guy.

I will soon post some photos (next day or two) of the Cabalgata Feria de las Flores for those that would like to see just a few of the literally thousands of beautiful women I saw that day.  You won’t believe it!

you are right on the mark as to the age that is considered over the hill. in colombia if you are in your late 20's and not married, its a death sentence, your chances become slimmer with every second over 27 and if you have kids its even worse. guys always go for the 18-24 year olds...there are so many guys cheating on their wives with these younger ones because they are easy, real easy. things are starting to change, i see in bogota women putting more emphasis on their career before getting married but it wont be for a few years before its like in the US. a woman over here that is 30 is just right, at that age in colombia they have passed their expiration date.

Pablo,
Thanks,I am looking forward to the pictures. Its easy to get gun shy
getting rejected in the US.But I would think your spanish would also need to be pretty good to just strike up a conversation.
I just bought the Rosetta computer spanish language course.Maybe that will get me working on it more.Just living in Cali without much study I get by with the everyday stuff, stores, taxis, ect.but my conversational skills are weak.

its good to see that you are interested in improving your conversational skills, i know that this part has always given me the edge over others, being able to express myself verbally and in written form has always impressed the women i've met.

I know it but I haven't done it.The Colombians that tried to teach me were not very good at it.Just started off somewhere in the middle, frustrated the hell out of me.
So if this computer course works its worth the $330 for level one and two.Anything can work that we will use.I did a programed study course years ago,to augment a psychology
course I was taking.I got the top score in 170 students by about 8% over the next best student. And it was easy, just one simple step building on the last, backing up if you needed to and repeating each concept 5 times before moving on.Hopefully I will get equally excited about this one.I NEED something to motivate me.
I bought a cheap, like $30 computer course before. It started with speech recognition. My sound card or something in my computer couldn't handle that and you couldn't skip it so I was stopped about where I started.

Don Pedro,

Send me your address via email.  I want to send you the Pimsleur Spanish classes if you haven't yet tried them.

It's a super easy way to start getting conversational.

i've heard these pimsleur classes are very good, take pablo up on his offer. also, one thing that helped me a lot was watching colombian soap operas, they were great to pick up many converstional phrases and the women were hot, nice eye candy.

I brought pimsler spanish classes on my IPOD but it won't work through the car radio most of the time using the ITRIP transmitter attachment. After 6500 miles of driving someone will probably tell me something simple I was doing wrong now.

I hear that Medellin is a very nice city. Much nicer than Cali so I'm told.

But what I would really like to see is pictures of really beautiful paisas. You know the kind that like to go out with americans.

I'm sure that there are many beautiful women in Medellin but what I'm not so sure of is their availablity compared to Cali because I've been dating a couple of real knock outs in Cali lately.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info on your trip, etc.  I have heard some good things about Medellin over the last couple of years.  Can you share with me why you so impressed with the city and the ladies?  I am especially interested in finding out how you would compare it to Cali?  I have only been to Cali twice.  I have never been to Medellin, but I am considering it.  I have exchanged some emails with another poster on this board, (Pablo) who also lives down there.  He has spoken highly of that city too.  So, I am just wanting to get your prospective.  Good luck in your search.

i have a friends from medellin, a couple of girls work with me, they are the nicest and hardestworking women you could ever meet but they tell me that if the economic situation in colombia were better, they would not have come here, they love their city. they are here to make some money and then move back, start a business and stay there, perhaps travel back and forth. they've also told me that many in medellin are not looking to find a gringo to leave medellin, many would prefer to stay there, so i think that just being a gringo isn't that much of an advantage as in other cities, its certainly intriguing to them but i feel that women in medellin are a lot less desperate to leave so you will have to have a lot to offer before they will pick up and come here.
