Well I survived one hurricane in Palm Beach and am back in Key West to see if I have to leave this week end again.

I just finished watching A Foreign Affair on Showtime. Actually I thought it was a very honest movie about two brothers on a MOB tour in Russia. The interesting thing is that one brother ends up with the journalist that was writing an exposay on the system. What came to mind at the end is the need for understanding in a relationship. That, along with humor, seem to be the cement that holds friendships and romances together. If you are not laughing with your lover when its over, then its really over!

I  would recommend Planet X to Ben K.  I know it didn't hit last year when it was supposed to, But who knows about next year.

Kiltboy did you know that they serve great crepes at Crepes & Waffles in Cali?
Just thought I would return to the purpose of the forum. Meanwhile I will just perch on a branch waiting to respond to a newby's question or provide support for your disenchantment with Caleanas.

To Heat "feed the pigs and keep the sheep happy" CLASSIC!!!!!!!

Your  response to brazilophile was blistering, although possibly not unearned.

PS Did you know that they have great waffles at Crepes and Waffles in Cali? Well I am just hanging from a branch here in anticipation of an important question about taxi fares in Cali. So I thought I would comment.

Jim,
I know there was alot more meaning in your post, but there is a Crepes and Waffles in Panama City and probably in Miami,Sandwich Cubano is there.
OK,story.Last time I was in Cali with my ex,4 years ago this December we were in Chipi Chapi.I was hungry for Crepes and Waffles. So we ask some local DITZ who WORKED in Chipi Chapi  if there is a Crepes and Waffles in Chipi Chapi. She  says no.Never believe anything when asking a question of a local. How could anybody who worked there not KNOW there was a Crepes and Waffles there?DUH,DUH,DUH.Or you might ask,how could WE have missed it?
So we grab a cab and go 15 miles to the Crepes and Waffles in Cuidad Jardine.
True story.Who was dumbest,us or that Chica?
When I went to the US Embassy in Bogota with my wife to get her visa 5+ years ago,EVERY TIME,EVERY TIME we asked a Colombian for imformation it was WRONG.
A person could form an attitude about Colombians that would not be correct, even if it sure seemed like it was.

Hollywood Nights, now closed, for an Anastasia tour to St. Pete. Hotel is the
Pulkovskya. And yep, you do get calls to your room from "available" ladies in
the lobby. Heck, if you get back to the hotel late, you've gotta be quick to the
elevator or the girls will get there 1st. But it was actual tour footage (from A
Foreign Affair), and the girls really do look just like those in the movie.
Sigh...I'm going to St. Pete in Sept.

My my Cowboy, are you so obcessive that my post went right over your head? Its not about Cali. Its sarcasm about what is expected on this board.
We are not a total info service for newbies. We talk about different things although we are interested in the same basic subject. This works because we are always available to answer questions or argue opinions. I don't hang on limbs for anyone and I don't get paid by travelers aid.
My opinion is that Cartagena is the most safe and fun place to live but the girls are more available in Cali. Therefore, I am thinking about buying a summertime apartment in Cali to pick up on the ladies you don't want.

All the luck. I have nothing against cali women, just the opinion that cali has more woman then anywhere on earth and if you do not go there, you are missing out on the mother lode.  Not true. has more agencies, but not more women. Well, maybe more easy women, but i am not looking for those type. Actually Brazil wins hands down for more hot, available women then anywhere in the world, but no agency scene, so most guys go somewhere else. And actually , Medellin has more women then Cali, just not easy ones.

How many times have you been to Brazil, and to what cities? How many women did you date?

Bueller,
As a guy who has actually lived in Brazil you might be able to head off a few wet dreams here.Sounds like my friend Kiltboy now is fanticising Brazil is the place, without any experience with it.You were actually instrumental in my not moving there. It sounded very interesting but the woman situation didn't sound good at all.I have actually used you as an example of the woman situation in Brazil. You are late 30's I believe but I have seen your photos. You are a good looking guy who could pass for 20's.I also remember you were looking hard for a Braziliana as a wife to be able to stay there, with little luck.My comment,in Cali the good looking women would be BREAKING DOWN YOUR DOOR.
So,nice beaches notwithstanding I decided Brazil was not the place for me,from your very honest imput.
I still plan to travel there but DO NOT fantacise it a good place to meet women.Maybe if you could take your own.
Kiltboy has actually had great success meeting women in Cali, far more than any place he fantacises about.BUT,he is not real happy with the way it turned out,so now CALI leaves a bad taste in his mouth,as does the agency owner he used to consider a great friend and confidant. He used her many times as a counsoler with his wife and also with girlfriends.
So now its one place after another, this is the place, this
is the answer. But it never is.
I think the answer lies within himself, not in any particular place. But when he gets that answer and is free of past mistakes and blaming others for those past mistakes he might just find that Cali is the place with the greatest number of CHOICES in women. It is not the ONLY place,READ AGAIN KB,NOT THE ONLY PLACE,just the place with the greatest choices therefore in my mind the most
opportunity.
NOW,Cartagena Jim knows by now that Cartagena, for all its other GREAT BENEFITS,is not a very good place to meet women,or even have much of a good time.Every time he comes to see me in CALI I think he gets more action in a week than he got in the previous 6 months. So he would like to include CALI in his list of cities where he can make money buying real estate right and remodeling it inexpensively, which he is VERY good at.Good choice JIM.If its basically for fun anyway why not have some fun doing it?
Bueller I thank you for all your great Brazil imput.I will definetly try to look you up when I go through Seattle. There is another guy who follows here also we
can hook up with.I am thinking July 21 +/- but I will mail you.
There is fantasy and there is experience. After you get the experience the fantasy drops away.So thank you for sharing your real world experience of Brazil, you are definetly our guy in Brazil, even if you are not there now.

[This message has been edited by Bueller]

Thanks, Pete. My questions for KB were innocent enough; I'm still curious as to how much of my difficulty in Brazil was my own fault, and thought maybe he'd been there.

Looks like I won't be here when you get here. I got called for a gig driving entertainer coaches for the next two months, so I may pass you on the highway somewhere. Actually, I was supposed to start that trip today, but one of the buses on Eminem's tour crashed in Missouri yesterday (http://www.thekansascitychannel.com/news/4720553/detail.html), and by some domino effect that I don't understand yet (different company), that messed up my schedule and I go out in a couple of days or so. But you can call my cell phone; whenever I do go out, I fly to San Jose to pick up the bus and the group (not Eminem's).

Once this gig is over, I just might relax by heading to Medellín for a couple of weeks to take up a friend on his invitation to sleep on his couch, drink all his whiskey, and charm his women. :-) I'm really itching to go see Colombia and see how different it is.

You are probably talking about Pablo, also from your neck of the woods now living in Medellin. He has invited me also plus I have another friend with a business there and an apartment and may be going mid August after I get back to Cali.
But,come on over to Cali.I owe you some freebies in my mind for your advice and you will get a WHOLE DIFFERENT FEMALE RESPONSE in Cali.No indifference here for a guy like you I promise.Brazil what? You will forget that REAL FAST.

Thanks, Pete. I was thinking of going next year for a month and spending time in Ibagué, Armenia, Manizales, and Bucaramanga--something like that, just to stay off the beaten path, hang out, and see how different or how similar it is to Brazil. But coming down sooner and staying with you and Pablo sounds like an even better idea! If they offer me more work after these two months are up I'll take it, so I don't know yet when I will be able to come down. But thanks for your offer, and I will take you up on it.
Now that I'm getting reestablished in the U.S. and have decided not to go back to Brazil to live, it's going to take a while before I can seriously consider getting married anyway, so this trip will just be to check it out. I got the chance to travel to the Northeast of Brazil again (Ilhéus, Itabuna, Salvador, Lauro de Freitas, and Maceió) just before moving back to the States. It didn't take long to decide I wouldn't be going back to the Northeast to live; in fact, I changed my formerly positive opinion of Maceió as anything but a place to spend a week's vacation. Glad to have gotten that out of my system; next stop, Colombia!

I still want to visit Brazil.I don't see just heading down by myself without some sort of plan.I may take my no one honey and head down to Brazil,Argentina and Chile sometime this winter.
Someone said its like taking sand to the beach taking a Colombiana there but without some sort of connections its not all that great just going by myself.Plus my baby is pining for me every day I am in the states.I don't think I will leave her again for any significant time periods.

Brazil is great to visit, and certainly is not devoid of great women. I haven't given up on it myself, but I have gone to no little trouble over the past three years to learn the language, so now that I'm over that hurdle there are good possibilities. I would just be really hesitant, knowing what I now know, to encourage someone to struggle over that hurdle. The language is euphonic but difficult, and I am constantly reading and writing to maintain and enhance my grasp of it. But Spanish and Spanish-speaking LA countries are probably a better choice for most. In general, I prefer the facial features of the women of other LA countries.

Be advised, Brazil is very strict about making you get your visa from the Brazilian consulate in whose jurisdiction you live--in your case, San Francisco--and they will likely even require proof of residency, such as utility bills, that show you have lived there for the past two years. You absolutely can not use the consulate in Colombia, or anywhere else. You can hire a visa expediting service to physically hand in the paperwork in San Francisco while you wait in Colombia, but as long as you are in the States now, be prepared for all the documentation required (http://www.brazilsf.org/visa_tourist_eng.htm), and remember that you must make your first entry within ninety days of issuance. They will also ask you to indicate where and when you intend to enter the country, though I'm not sure if they hold you to that.

Did you also know they have great food at La Fragata, El Bunguer and Carbon de Palo in Bogota? Check them out during your next visit.

Just hangin' from a similar branch on another tree. How's the view?
