[This message has been edited by Looking4Wife]

I am headed back to BAQ next week for my 3rd trip since April 14.

I have been talking to a new girl from the agency (International Introductions) via telephone since Monday, 7/11.  I would like to meet her in person ASAP to know if the in-person chemistry exists or not.  I will be in BAQ Fri 7/22 - Tue 8/2.

If not, I have about 3 other girls that I have met previously through the agency that I could surprise...

I am looking for a hotel that might accomodate me for approx. $50/night.  My last trip, 5 days over Memorial Day Weekend, I stayed at the Hotel Majestic (per JediKnight's suggestion).  However, I was less than impressed... although it was affordable and it served my purposes.

I will likely return to Hotel Majestic again, but hopefully someone out there has some other affordable suggestions???

Gracias...

Is Majetic in El centro?  Friends tell me it is unsafe.  Whats your take on safety at that hotel?

On my first trip, I stayed at Apartamento Alvaro Jesus on Cra. 53, which is one block over from Hotel El Prado.  The accomodations there are very nice, but I'm not sure if they can fit me in, and what the pricing might be.  I was there for 30 days before, and I think they cater more to the longer stays, i.e. 30+ days (hence the name "apartamento" :-).

Hotel Majestic is also on Cra. 53.  It may be 5-10 minutes closer to downtown than Alvaro Jesus, but its NOT in El Centro.

I felt safe at Majestic... except I was under constant attack from mosquitoes.  Majestic had small, diagonal windows in the bathroom above the shower that served as a not-so-secret entrance for (what seemed like) hordes of mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes are common in BAQ because many buildings have "open air" features.  They were bad in Alvaro Jesus, but Majestic was worse.

NOTE:  My ex-military friend advised me to go to the army surplus store and buy a mosquito net for my trip... hopefully that will alleviate the nocturnal attacks at least...

In my 5 trips to BQ, Hotel Costa Linda is still my favorite. It is cheap and now it has been purchased by Versalles and remodelled to Versalles standard including independent A/C in your room. $72k/night I think.

The prices for the hotels change constantly.
After they quote you a price, ask for a discount based on the fact that you will be staying for two weeks.
Each hotel has its pros and cons:
Hotel El Prado-I paid $155,000 pesos per day in June.
Great location for citas.
Unfortunately, the public areas do not have air conditioning.

Hotel Royal - Approximately $100,000 pesos.
It is one block away from Hotel El Prado.
Great location for citas- the large air conditioned reception area has been remodeled to facilitate citas.
The hotel hosts the I Love Latins Tour.
The restaurant is always empty(due to the poor quality of the food),so you can sit and talk for hours while enjoying a jugo con leche.
In June,I had most of my citas at this location due to the air conditioning.

Hotel Versalles - Approximately $100,000 pesos.
Used to be the best deal in town, but they keep raising their prices.
The rooms on the top floor have balconies with great views of Barranquilla.
The restaurant is good and has low prices.
Sometimes, the noise from nearby nightclubs make it difficult to sleep.
The hotel hosts the Barranquilla's Best Tour.
The fat girl who runs the reception desk is the only person in Barranquilla I dislike.
When she gets fired,I will return.

Buena Suerte...

Why not pay 100 a night at the El Prado instead of 50 dollars at some lesser hotel.   What is another few hundred hotel dollars at this point compared to your other "affordable expenditures" you have demonstrated with what will be your 4th trip in 3 months.  This is kind of like flying to St Thomas, USVI, and booking a lower level inside room on a cruise ship with a "less than impressed room" then going back doing the same thing all over again.

"Yes i see" 3 trips and not 4.   Reminds me of General Lee's comment at Appomattox, in reference to no written mention of the enlisted men keeping their horses in the surrender terms as written by general Grant.

it all depends on what you want. when i flew down to surprise my fiancee in march, all i did at my hotel was sleep and wash up, the entire day and night was spent around and about in barranquilla, it didn't make any sense to spend twice as much for el prado when i wasn't there and the money saved bought me another round trip ticket. if you plan on entertaining in your room or spending alot of time at the hotel pool then it might be worth spending more to impress but otherwise don't throw you money away.

Jedi,

Where did you stay?
How much was it?
What did your finance think of the location?

the majestic, about 40$/day, near a university, lots of hot young female students but my fiancee liked it. the prado it isnt but as i mentioned before, i only slept there. the breakfast was included and it was typical, juice or chocolate, eggs, bread, fruits. the hotel has a pool but i never used it. unless there is a nicer place for the same money i would stay there again, the people were very nice.

Hotel Dorado is 30-35$ a night.  Pool, AC, breakfast included & hot water (if the pressure is good in that particular room), close to all the night club and a few supermarkets.  between El Prado and Buena Vista (15 minutes either direction.  Im using them again in Aug.  The bedroom is seperate from the living area, spacious with kitenette I never use as there is a restuarnt dow stairs.  Safe area.

while in Ukraine I spent VERY little time in my flat. Most of the time was spent about KIev checking out the scenes. The flat was basically to sleep & shower & shave.
