Help sought for sex slaves
Task force wants to raise awareness of human trafficking
By Kirk Mitchell
Denver Post Staff Writer

A task force intent on eradicating human trafficking will debate whether Colorado should deem mail-order brides as sex slaves and will set up a training program to teach police the difference between prostitutes and sex slaves.

Mail-order brides are often targets of violence and abuse, said state Rep. Alice Borodkin, D-Denver, who formed the Interagency Task Force on Trafficking this year. Women forced into prostitution should be considered victims, not criminals, she said at the first task-force meeting at the Capitol on Tuesday.

The task force, which includes state law-enforcement officials and experts from the University of Denver and nonprofit groups, will form subcommittees to discuss mail-order brides, training programs, new legislation and help for victims, Borodkin said.

Borodkin said she formed the task force after three spas in her district staffed with foreign sex slaves were broken up. Six other spas also were cited for using foreign- born sex slaves.

FBI agent Nick Vanicelli recently told state lawmakers that an initial investigation found that an interstate ring smuggling children for prostitution could be operating in Colorado.

This looks like another case of making a law against an activity that is already illegal.  Why not just enforce the law against prostitution?  Or, is there really another agenda?

Alice.  Hmmm....

Could this be another lefty feminist trying to casually link trafficking with MOB's in the hope that no one will object?

This has absolutely nothing to do with mail order bride sites. The people who own these agencies and the people who sign up for these agencies are legit. This column was written and soley based on importing slaves.

This is usually done by the Russian Mob or some form of smuggling ring. There is no way possible for someone to target a marraige agency and and import women through the agency without creating some kind of awareness.

Belive me I think that a girl who has left her family and her country for a new life in another country would be very missed if she did not contact her family once she was in the states. Therfore, athorities would be alerted right away. It's just not possible.

I can tell you from experience that the Russian mob is all over Amigos.com right now trying to get American guys to bring women into the country. For them to be taken away for slavery here in the states. Amigos.com is more than aware of it. Kicking them off left and right.

I also stumbled across an article where the Russian mob had created a site as a front to import women. But again, Immigration would know if something was up.

I really don't think that the government is worried about Mail Order Brides right now. I also don't think they will do much about governing these agencies. There have only been a few cases that have reached supreme level. As far as human slavery yes I am sure they are working on that area specifically but they are not targeting MOB sites.

Sincere Regards,
Michael Hurles

Maybe we should set up a training program to teach the do-gooders the difference between prostitutes and sex slaves and women who freely enter into a legitimate, loving, intercultural marriage.

This reminds me of a city nearby that has been considering a law targeted at "potentially dangerous" dogs. And the criteria? Any dog over thirty pounds. Well, my fifty-five pound Golden Retriever is "potentially dangerous" all right-- if she were shot out of a cannon, and hit someone, they might get hurt. Meanwhile, to cite one of countless examples, a friend of mine in Brazil is always covered in bite marks from his wife's ten-pound Shit Zoo, I mean Shih-Tzu, lap rodent. But it's less than thirty pounds, so it's not dangerous, right?

Sheesh, an accurate diagnosis of the problem is at least half the cure.
