Now I want to address the gringos.

What I saw for the most part where like I said decent guys who are tired of the feminist, materialistic, selfish, self centered, fat women who live in the U.S., Canada and Europe.  They come from all over the world to Cali Colombia.

Decent guys who want a life, family and a companion.

However some of them suffer from the same problems the whine about.
I saw gringos who were fat, unkempt, cheap, selfish and only carried about having arm candy.  The thought they were buying the latest sports car to show to their buddies.

So if you mix the dishonest agency owners and these losers you get the perfect storm.  A scam with the perfect attraction.  Money and beauty.

The agency owners love this.  It's great to post pictures of 50 year old loser gringos with a 20 year old model on the cover of the website.  It sells!

It gives hope to guys who have none.  Guys who couldn't find a girl in the U.S. because they are social misfits.

Guys who never  cut their fingernails.  Have green toe fungus.
Bald, fat selfish fools who don't shine their shoes and never put on a pressed shirt.  Show up in tennis shoes and shorts for a date.
You get the picture.  Self centered losers who think they can buy a model and take her home for a sex slave.

And here is the thing that's hard to believe.  They get burned.  They marry a girl. She uses them for a green card.  And they come back for more to the same agency that hooked them in the first place.
That is if they have any money left.

And they make a walking advertisement for the other gringos.  The advertise this.  "An average guy (loser) like you can get a model".
And these guys buy it hook, line, and sinker.

First you see them like this.  Late forty or fifty year old dudes looking through the books for a decent 30 something women. That ends quick.  Soon they are are on to the ringers.  Pushed sometimes by the agency or by their own stupidity.  And the agency girls start talking and burning up the phone lines.

Soon they are walking around Chipichapi.  Shopping at Studio F, the Jewelry store and spending big bucks.  The girls can't resist.  Sometimes the girls overplay their hand and he gets gets wise.  So he starts to date other Hotties.  And the pass him around like a cheap whore.

They churn them like a stock broker.

How does this happen you ask?  The main reason is this.

THEY CANNOT SPEAK SPANISH.  AND THEY DON'T WANT TO LEARN.

They are lazy. And they want to believe the agency bullshit.
These guys are so blinded they can't see what's happening.
They want to believe the dream that the agency tells them.

THE AGENCY ARE LIARS.  NOT ALL BUT MOST.

In the beginning I would try and clue them in to the scam.
And they would get pissed off.  At me!  Yes at me for trying to crush their dream.

I had an agency owner offer to give me  a "lifetime membership" If I could convince a gringo to marry a certain girl who he was vacillating on.  It was a traditional Colombian bribe. As common as a handshake.  I understand through the grapevine that he was getting a cut if she made it to the states.

I had girls tell me that if I would help them convince their boyfriend to marry them that they would dump him and hook up with me once they made it to the U,S.

I had girls outright offer me money to marry them.  A pure business deal.  BTW, the going price in the U.S. in $20,000.00 for this.
I've had girls offer me this in the states too.

Always starting with $5,000.00 or $10,000.00.  But that is what YOU are worth to them. $20,000.00!!!

I began to meet the couples and I learned to not speak Spanish in the beginning.  Soon these stupid girls would start to blab to their friends or on the phone about their true intentions.  What I heard would shock you.  These girls are cold, calculating whores.

They would talk right in front of me about where they were going to take there gringo shopping.  How much money he had given them.  The engagement ring the had.  And the cost and what was next on the agenda.

After I made friends with one X Mafia girl I found out about some scams that are so good they should go into the Hall of fame.

Wedding ring scam.

It works like this.  A real Hot looking girl hooks up a old, fat, bald desperate loser gringo.  Or maybe even a decent guy who has no idea what he is doing.

They fall in "love".  Which takes about two days (not kidding)
She takes him ring shopping.  Always where a "friend" or "cousin" works.  He buys a $5000.00 or $10,000.00 dollar ring sometimes less sometimes more. The show a real diamond ring to the gringo.  He cannot say no at this point.  They have it sized and come back latter.  They pick it up and it's been switch for a Cubic Zirconium.

She then does one of several things.  She pays a little money to the owner of the store and he gives her the real stone.  Or she gets the difference in price in cash.  Minus the scam fee.  Or she get suddenly "robbed"  and the ring disappears.

Soon she dumps him and is off to the next sucker.  I saw a gringo fall for this TWICE!  First for the "robbery" scam.  Then the bait and switch.

The wedding scam

Another scam is the "Wedding Scam"  The agency owners love this one.
They make a pile of money on this.  The arrange the wedding for a the gringo and his bride.  They sell him a $500.00 to $1000.00 dollar wedding for $5000.00 to $10,000.00 bucks!  It's that simple.

I've  heard that the bride and the agency owners cut a deal and the more elaborate she makes it the more money she makes for herself.  So it starts out small and ends up big.  What's the poor dope gonna do?  After all "he's only getting married once"   Right?

English school scam.

Then their is the "English school scam".  Very simple.  The guy falls in love within a week. They can't talk to each other with out a "translator"  So she gets him to pay for English school.  And the expenses that go with it.  Books, transportation etc..

Clue!  THE TRANSLATORS ARE IN ON THE DEAL.  EVERY DEAL

He goes home.  She just never goes or she goes, (smart one trying to improve her game) and she hooks up another gringo the next month.  soon she's got three or four jerks paying her rent, school and other expenses.  Not bad money when it's times three.

Cancer scam

Then there is the "cancer scam".  Either the girl, her child or the mother or sister suddenly get "cancer".  And of course needs money for medical test, doctors etc..

This one tugs at the heart stings.  How can you not give money to the mom or sister for her cancer treatments?  Needless to say this one can cost the gringo thousands of dolors.  I've even heard of the mother staging a sick bed in the house with a Real IV!  And a fake doctor!

Last word.

Add in braces for the teeth, fake boobs and butt and all the other stuff and you see what happens here.  These games can be played a thousand ways.

It's up to you.  If you learn the language it lowers the chance that you will get bullshitted and scammed.

But this is all up to you.

You pay your money and you take your chances.

Love.......It's a gamblers game.  Your mileage may vary.

DISCLAIMER:  NOT ALL AGENCIES OR WOMEN ARE SCAMMERS.

Next.  My story.

I have no reason to doubt Heat’s vision of Cali. However, as a whole the vast majority of Colombian women are not looking to scam gringos. Most of the American men who visit have a good heart with good intentions. The vast majority of connections are trouble free, uneventful and therefore outside the scope of news or gossip. We need the warnings but keeping things in perspective the successes far outnumber the deceits. For a man new to this selecting a reputable and helpful marriage agency that provides the services most suitable to you is the key to avoiding the deception and improving the odds of success.

I’ve been away for a few days and looking at the board it seems like weeks. We have a small minority on this board that enjoy calling people names based on physical features that have absolutely no relevance to the topic. The majority understand that you do so from limitations beyond your scope of recognition. You can’t reason so you rail.

Well Heat is mostly correct.  After back and forth to Bogota for about 5 years, and taking a couple of my good friends to a very small high end "one on one" agency there i know, i have seen more than one supposedly normal individual actually turning out to be a somewhat "raw" etc!!! person at this agency with the owner trying accomodate them as business is business, but on the other hand shaking her head wishing they would go elsewhere.  I am not defending her agency, but do not think she is scamming anyone either, as initially on the phone or via e-mail, and then meeting this type of individual in Bogota in person usually sheds a different light on the issue at hand, and the realities on how to deal with it.

Again, great stuff!!  This does happen and I have seen it.  I know of a case where a guy from England was sending money to a  girl for a case of illness in the family and my colombian friend told him and pretty much begged him not to send it, but he did anyway (About $1000).  Soon after she told him that she did not want to see him any more.

To the newbie, don't let this stop you from pursuing this process. This is great information and you should be informed about the pitfalls.  Again, this is what is great about having a  forum like this. Read this and don't fall into the same trap. Through all the potential pittfalls this is a lot of fun!!

Also have to agree with the type of guy. I have seen guys come into agencies with pictures of the house and cars and they start spending money immediately to establish thier position and try to impress the girl. Wrong move....you are in the land of milk and honey.  You don't have to do it.  The girl has to like you. I have heard them in citas, not talking about themselves, but the car and the house.  Like the only thing I offer you is financial freedom and because of that you must like me.  Agency owners catch on to that as well, the term used in Vegas is "whale".  I have seen in one agency where the owner gave this guy 100$ of the  attention as he offered to pay her an additional $1000 if he got married. After that, we (the other gringos that were at the agency) did not exist.  Never used that agency again.  I don't speak spanish well, but from what I could tell the agency owner was telling this girl she should marry him. She agreed to marry him after one week.  I did not know what happen to them until a couple of days ago when I looking at the TLC site and I saw the guy in the pictures attending some TLC parties, so he must be a single man again.

I sure wish there had been this kind of forum 10 years ago . It would have created much better agenies to protect both parties .

to the newbies , you'll should be very thankful that all this info can be provided FREE of charge .

And if you learn from any of this you can really find a very special lady . I have got to know 2 very special ladies in the past  , and now have a very very special lady .

True reality, but even with the knowledge put in front of them, they still do the same stupid things. What’s that old saying, “you can show a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink it.”
little story, last time down south with the girlfriend, a girl she knows, met a guy from DC, totally put up a fake front, kissing his butt, doing everything he wanted to see and hear, but by accident, said a few things to us that we picked up on. " I want a car just like that one, buy me one honey"  " look at his clothes, name brands, Tommy hill finger, Polo, Nautica, ect" she showed her hand to us, but this guy was clueless. to make matters worse, since he has been gone, she  has been doing a lot of partying with some local men, coming home at 2 or 3 in the morning, driven home by one or two guys in new cars ect. Did we tell the guy about whets going on, sure, did he listen, no.

So, like most, he filed for a K1 visa, still sends her money, that she uses to go partying with, and it totally blind or stupid, (cant tell yet) to what is going on.

I have a bet with my girlfriend if they do get married, how long it will last, I picked 4 months, just long enough to play the abuse card. She picked just long enough to get her green card

Great post Mudd!   “you can show a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink it.” I can't tell you how many times I have told guys not to send money and they did so anyway.  This tells me that they are so starved for love even if they have only a remote chance that this romance will last they are willing to risk their dollars.  Look here in the US at the topless bars where the girls make $2000 per night and all the generous guys get is a teasing.

If a guy wants to pay for his novias airplane ticket from the US I tell him to purchase the ticket here and let her pick it up in Colombia.  If he wants to send her cash for "family emergencies"  I suggest that he send the money to our agency and his girlfriend must come there sign for the money in order to pick it up. This allows my staff to be aware of whats going on and can expose any lady who tries this on an ongoing basis.

BogJIm, Some gringos have a savior complex – they feel the need to save these women but usually just get taken to the cleaners. Sometimes they get laid by a hottie so it is not a total loss. However, sadly, they often just naively dole out the dinero and get nothing in return. I think it was CaliPro whom inked PL Rule #1 - which guarantees that you will at least get something for your money. Come to think of it, I wonder how our new female academics feel about Rule #1

What's rule 1? Getting laid?

Hey, go to town.  As long as you don't force her or she's not underage, I don't see what the problem is.  She has a choice.
