Chris,

I have been attempting to call.  I thought we were going to be able to speak last night, but the phone lines must have been screwed up.  Her son called me, and was trying to put his mother on the line; then the line went dead.  I guess I will have to start all over today.

Your problems may possibly be a case of the third world phone systems.  "If a third world phone system can fail, it will fail, at the worst possible moment."  You might consider writing a letter expressing the difficulties with the communications system, having it professionally translated by someone familiar with the expressions in Colombia so you say it in the best manner possible, and sending it by certified mail so you get a receipt.
