For those interested, the State Department
today released its June 2005 Trafficking in
Persons Report.

Among the Latin countries, Colombia and
Spain were placed into Tier 1, and Peru,
Brazil, Panama, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina,
El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Uruguay
were put into Tier 2.
The report estimated up to 50,000 Colombian
nationals engaged in prostitution overseas,
many of them trafficking victims according to State
Dept. and termed it "one of the largest national outflows
of trafficking victims in the Western Hemisphere."
The report did note that the Colombian government
and other governments were making strong efforts
to address the issue.
