Ok, keep this on the downlow. Thought I would give you guys a heads up if you want to make plans.
I am working with an American magazine on a new project. Think of it as an International Maxim Style Magazine. (Matter of fact, that is their direct competition.) They are coming here to shoot some of my models for their magazine, but we are also looking for new models. We already have a location, a finca to shoot at, out at Kilometro 18. I'm going to be shooting some of it, but the Publisher already hired a rather professional photographer for this shoot. I'll be doing some shoots for them on this trip and later on. (Maybe, I can get back to Japan for awhile.) Each Model that is chosen by the magazine will receive 200,000 pesos and a few copies of the magazine they are featured in. Make up will be done by Fernanado Lopez's shop. This shoot will happen on Weds., June 22nd
They also have their own Bikini Line and they want me to organize a Bikini Contest. We are looking at a June 24th date. I am currently looking for a suitable club to do this at. (Leaning towards Mr. Mojito)
Some of the details are this. First prize is 500,000 pesos and the winner will also be the featured model in the magazine for a month to be determined. Distribution of Brazil, Mexico, and the US. Later in Japan.
If any of you guys have any Amigas who would be interested in participating in the casting for the magazine shoot or think they should enter the Bikini Contest, you know how to reach me. Let me know quick though.
Once again, my life is just going down the tubes, ain't it? LOL!
Later Gators!

Yeah, you figure after 6 years I would get used to this, but no.
Went around to some clubs and talked with a couple of owners and managers and it amazes me these guys can even tie their own shoes without falling over. "No, Natalia Paris isn't going to be in the show, it's a bikini contest, open to the public....Ya freaking Moron!" The Colombians who are working on this with me were even, "Dude, are you serious?"
Folks living down here can appreciate that a lot Colombians cannot see past the next hour much less the week after or the month after. Forget about next year. It's been brought up on this board before.
These guys wanted TV coverage, a "Name" model, a cover charge at the door that we wouldn't get any part of, and we had to pay for all the flyers and radio spots. Admittedly, this is my first time dealing with the larger clubs in town. I've down some stuff with "off" Sexta Clubs. Clubs in Yumbo are much easier to work with but I don't want this thing too far out of town. But, I swear to Gawd they wanted freaking helicopter camera coverage and spotlights for clubs in Cali. Oh, I could of gotten Douglas without any hassle, but I was so frustrated by the end of the night I said to Hell with it. I lost a couple of IQ points dealing with these people tonight.
For example: Once we had a show at Vertigo. They charged a 15,000 peso per person cover because of the show. They made something like 5,000,000 at the door alone. A few hundred people showed up. Everyone buying drinks and having a good time. Who knows what they made from drinks that night. And you know, they couldn't kick down an extra 20,000 pesos for the 6 girls who were in the show. 120,000 pesos and they couldn't part with it. We paid for the flyers and the transportation for the girls and the radio spots. Vertigo couldn't give up one dime to us after they made so much from the show. So, I am kind of jaded when it comes to the business sense of the club owners down here. Then they had the Gall to call us 2 weeks later to see if we would set up another show there. Yeah right! I thought it might be different with the clubs in Cali, but they are even worse. Don't even get me started about the Mangoviche show when the sponsor of the show forgot the damn clothing the girls were suppose to wear that night. Luckily, she only lived at some finca outside of Cali and only took her 3 hours for the round trip! Yeah, we got that show done right around closing.
Anyways..............this puppy is going to be at Blues Brothers Bar on June 24, 2005 at 11 PM.
Avenida 5BN No.23D-67
Cali, Colombia.
Same prizes and all. Master of Ceremonies will be non other than Grand Master DJ SWB.
For those of you NOT in the know, that would be Peter McKeown AKA DJ Skinny White Boy.
I promised I wasn't going to write so much. Alright, I'm off the bed.

Reading this thread, I'm wondering why you and so many others seem to be down on the bar owners, calling them blind, short sighted and 'morons' etc. They already HAVE a club, you're working for people trying to START a magazine. In other words, you need them a lot more than they need you. If they gave free use of their venue to every wannabe with a tall tale, they wouldn't BE club owners for very long. Most likely every bar manager (except perhaps a few who cater to the Lawrence Welk crowd) from Las Vegas to Warsaw already knows how to organize a bikini contest without your help, so what do you bring to the table, other than a 'potential' magazine that hasn't even seen its first edition yet?  Nothing personal, I don't have anything against you, and I know that some of the guys have met you in person and will vouch for your honesty and all around good-guy-ness, but all the club owners see is a wannabe with a tall tale and little, if any, up front cash, no name talent and no ESTABLISHED magazine that already has enough juice to be a feather in their hat. Com'on up to Dallas and see if you can get Gilley's (or even Adair's) on the terms of 'I take all the gate and I want a cut of the liquor sales too'....you might be suprized to discover just how 'short sighted' US club owners turn out to be as well.

I'm not offended, hope you aren't either. I just don't think bar owners (in Colombia or the US either) are going to be eager to turn their places over to any such event unless they get some big name publicity or some CASH out of the deal. Look at it this way, if Caesers(sp?) Palace hosts a nationaly televised Playboy Magazine event, it's good publicity for both of them and they'll strike some kind of deal (very likely free rooms, convention facilities, food, staff support etc. in return for the exposure). If Caesers Palace hosts the Wholesale Plumbing Supply Trade Association's annual convention, they make them pay for the use of their facilities, goods and services, because catering and hall renting is the business they're in, not helping the plumbing trade. The bars of Cali are in the business of selling drinks and/or renting out their facilities, not the business of helping new magazines get launched.

Hey Keith

Remember ten dollars a week for the rest of your life or a hundred today?

On the coast the future is tommorow at four O'Clock. "Depende del Murano" depends on the size of the pig. Meaning how big is the buyer or what can he afford. My favorite for employees is my mother died again! The best was my maid, who when caught stealing, said "just deduct it from my future salary". jimc

it is not just a Colombia thing but found throughout LA. Pay me now because I might not be here tomorrow or as the expression goes they cannot see the forest through the trees. it can be infuriating at times

I might be a little late. The 24 of june is the same night as the TLC party. I usually try to drag the best looking chick at the party out for a night on the town. If she is open to going to Blues, I'll be there.

thats it, $200,000 pesos is all they get? WOW, sounds like the magazine is pretty cheap on paying models. i would think that they would earn more, since the magazine is going to make some pretty good money off of them.

Well, it's the first issue of the magazine, so you got to kind of watch your duckets first time around. It's all out of pocket.
Besides minimum wage for a month in Colombia is "Officially" 240,000 pesos a month, so 200,000 for a couple of hours work ain't bad. That's generally what I pay my models and no one has complained yet.
You also have to take into consideration that they are flying 4 people from California to Colombia then onto Venezuela. You have to put those people up in hotels, feed them and transport them. Plus, they have to pay for all the locations and make up people and pay for extra transport for the girls from Cali out to the Finca and back. Basically have a few vans around for all day. Then there is the booze they are going to have to buy for the party, etc. Plus, the girls are getting a few more perks which are a surprise.  The girls are getting some exposure they wouldn't other wise get, plus getting copies of the magazine is a big deal to them. I don't know, everyone I have talked to today thought it was a great deal.
When the next issue rolls around the girls are going to get considerably more.
It's a take or leave it proposition though. No one is twisting their arm to do it, you know?

Hey Traveller,  You mention that this magazine is in direct competition to "Maxim"...   Do you know when the first issue is being released?
