This is my daughter who I adopted in Guatemala five years ago.

http://www.picturetrail.com/pachangero

She came from a hilltop without electric, water or even a road to get there.  I walked two hours stright up to meet her mother.

Her mother had five other kids and just could not feed her after the father was killed in an accident.

When I heard the story my wife and saw that baby I knew she was mine.

After six months and lot of money she came to live with us.

Her teacher tell us she may be a gifted student and they want to test her next year.  She is as sweet as honey and is a real daddy's girl.

Her sister (biological) is 11 years old and has accepter her from the day she came.  It was a match made in heaven.

Before you guys start saying nice things about me I must tell you I adopted her because I wanted more kids and I love girls.

I'm not trying to change the world.  Just make mine and hers a little better.

And as the wait to adopt in the U.S. is almost three years more couples are doing this.  What ever you might think about abortion it has made it almost impossible to adopt in the U.S.

There just are not enough kids for those that want them.

Anyway I hope this puts a face on me.  Yes I'm hard core and a bad MF.

But I have a soft spot for kids.  Thanks for letting me share this with you.

in what you've shared! A MAN, that cares for his children & helps other children rates near the top, in my book. We all have our differences in how we approach our adult relationships, that's kool....

Just take care of the children....

Heat,

I have a three year old little girl and she is definately a Daddy's girl.  Seeing the picture of your daughter reminds me a lot of my daughter.  Thanks for sharing  pictures of your life.  I know that little girl brings a big smile to your face.

Your daughter sure is cute!  I think it was wonderful that you chose to adopt that little ray of sunshine.

Heat,

I always wanted to adopt a little girl even though I have a wonderful daughter and son who are now teenagers.  When suggesting that we adopt a child to my ex-wife early in our marriage she would not consider it being fearful that she wouldn't love an adopted child as much as one of her "own".  I always knew that if we had, she would be loved equally just as if she was our own and not adopted.

A few questions for you.  Would you say that Latinas are more opened minded about adopting children or is it even a cultural difference on this?

Have your older children ever visited you in Colombia?  I'm curious how that went if they did.

For the record, I think adoption is by far the better option rather than killing an innocent life through abortion.

I admire you guys who have gone somewhere else to adopt. Have several friends locally who have attempted to go through the US system only to be thwarted or delayed and spent a lot of money in the process. All three I'm familiar with went to China (they know each other), had the trip of their lives and eventually ended up with a child. One a single male. Just not acceptable to our adoption system. We have such a screwed up society. All the kids have adapted well and are very bright. Hope that you all do a great job of parenting and reap the rewards of guiding their lives to adulthood. I too believe that I am not here to change the world but I can make an attempt to fix what is missing from it. One of the key issues to me is having a wife from another culture that brings a sane and workable perspective to raising a family and living life to its fullest.

I could not agree more.  Those Kids from China are cute and smart.

You sound like you have your head on stright.

You are going to find a nice girl with the view that you have on life.  If I can help let me know.

Thanks for thee kind words.

I agree on the difficulty of adopting infants here.  We went through the process a few years ago.  We didn't make it past the third cut and would have had to start over.  We starting looking into overseas adoption, but then we ended up having our own.

I saw an article in the WSJ about a year ago saying there was a surplus of babies in some parts of the country.  They showed two gay men (in Michigan I think) who had just adopted.  Needless to say, I was a bit pissed off.  I think we got cut because during one of the group discussions I said any drug-addicted mother would get no contact with a child I adopted (open adoptions seem to be big now).

It's that kind of shit that makes me glad I married foreign.  Our culture is sick.
