Several months back, my noiva applied for a US tourist visa.  She had an interview this week and was granted the visa!   She will be able to come visit me!!  We are both very happy about that.

There is something to be said for getting involved with Latinas who are college graduates and have worked in professional jobs for several years.  My noiva has a nursing degree and has worked for her local health department for almost 10 years, since graduation.

If my girlfriend reads that I am in trouble.She is also a nurse with a degree in nursing,16 years exsperience,8 at her present job.She said she can get her supervisor at the hospital plus several doctors to write letters for her,including a doctor who is very well known nationally.
I didn't encourage  her,partially because I wasn't sure I wanted to take her on vacation with me and partially because I thought it wouldn't work anyway and we would be in doubt to the end.
I leave 7 weeks from Friday.Its probably too late,right?
I will spend 5 weeks driving around the western states,it would be nice to have company when I am not with family or friends.
I guess if there is any hope time wise I should get on it.She would LOVE to go.Plus she doesn't want to be without me for 5 weeks.

It's a hit or miss kind of thing it seems to me.  Nursing isn't that well paid a profession in Colombia.  I doubt it would get any special preference.  A story, my wife's aunt got a torist Visa to the U.S. last year and she has virtually no assets and would have to be considered a flight risk.  My mother in law on the other hand who has a house, bank account, husband and children in Colombia and letter from me, got turned down at Embassy without even a look.

It's a complete crap shoot. I've seen people get them who had absolutely no ties to Colombia and other people with houses, money, good jobs get turned down.

Another story, I work for a large company (300,000+ employees worldwide) and we have outsourced 80% of our IT support in my department to the former Soviet Union (FSU) and a city in particular that has many marriage agencies.   We recently requested to have two of our FSU employees come over to the U.S. for training with local team for a 3 month period.  One was a single woman and one was a single man.  When they had their U.S. embassy appointments the woman was rejected while the man was not.  I asked why, and the FSU team thought it was because she was single and a woman  and thus considered a higher flight risk.  I was surprised considering how big a company we are.  I thought we'd have more pull.

I think you are right. My Novia recently got turned down and I think the fact she has had 2 or 3 jobs in the last 3 or 4 years was a big part of it. Professionals that have been at their job forever have a much better chance of getting a Visa. The eight hour wait (I was with her in Bogota) was a joke.
