I think what happens in that situation boils down to a girl's character.

When my wife first came to the States, she worked as a live-in nanny for a wealthy couple (two doctors) in Miami. Their home was like something you would see Robin Leach walking around in. They literally would buy each other cars as birthday presents (cars like you mentioned). She told me that they were miserable, that they fought alot. Their kid was a spoiled brat. They treated my wife like she was the poor, desperate refugee slave who didn't really deserve their respect. She mentioned to them that she was eventually going to move to Tennessee to live with me. They warned her about me, told her to be careful, lol.

My wife now works in a law office. It's located in an upscale district of our city. Her bosses have the Jags, BMW's, all that stuff, along with the fabulous houses.  What else do they have? Porno addictions, adulterous affairs, (asking my wife to lie for them at times) drinking problems, etc. In my wife's eyes, the really wealthy people that she has known here in the States all seem to lead miserable lives. If she was a golddigger, maybe she would see things differently.

Just be the best judge of character that you can be. BTW, my wife married a tractor-trailer driver, albeit one who is an exception to the stereotypes attached to his profession. ;-)

I'd say your wife married an exceptional person who happens to be a tractor-trailer driver.

I have read both you and Valleydude's posts.  I think that people from any and all social and economic levels can be happy and well adjusted, or miserable and unhappy.  I got to see Zig Ziglar a few times, as well as read some of his books and listened to tons of his tapes.(He is a motivational speaker, if some of you don't know). He said many wise, commonsense things, but I certainly remember one. He said " I've had money, and I've been without money.  It's definitely better to have money. Just don't let the money get you".   That may not be an exact quote, but close enough.  Yes, there are many people that live the lives described by both of you guys.  Anyone with a brain would not want to be that type of person.  Those people are self-centered, and also self-destructive. By the way, did anyone see Spanglish?  I am not normally an Adam Sandler fan.  But, Spanglish is a cut above his normal stupid level of comedy. Plus, the latina in that movie was beautiful, sweet and adorable. The little girl that played her daughter was certainly a talented actress, and she also came across as a sweet heart.  The character that Tea Leoni played as Adam Sandler's wife was a psycho, neurotic, bitch!  I was just surprised that the movie director and producer, etc showed how the latina was a much better person, and certainly more desirable than the american woman. It was an excellent example for why we are going south of the border for love!   Who in their right mind would want to put up with the crap that Adam Sandler's character does, in that movie.  By the way, as you can tell, I highly recommend the movie to any posters who have not yet seen it. Viva latinas!

that movie sure showed the " typical american wife" in a bad light, neurotic nut case, self absorbed in her own feelings and happyness, and they wonder why we go to other countries lookig for a normal girl, DUH!!!!!!  i would reccommend the movie to any man who is sitting on the fence, deciding if he sould go look elsewhere for love.
