permanent resident status has been APPROVED!!!! The total time of when they (the INS) cashed our check, until we received this notice was 4 months & 3 weeks via the Vermont Service Center....

Now to obtain a new alien registration receipt card (Form I-551), we must appear in person at our designated US Immigration & Naturalization office. OK Family, for those of you who have recently gone through this or know someone who has....what's the deal?

Many, many thanks in advance...

Hoda,

Since her Removal of Conditions was approved, there will be no interview. The standard drill is usually to show up at your local CIS office with her passport, the approval letter, 3 passport photos, and her expired Green Card. They will take her old card, place an I-551 stamp in her passport (good for 1 year?) and you’re out of there. The new card will be sent to you by mail.

That’s what we did a year ago this month and we’re still waiting for the new card to arrive. We went in about a week ago to get another passport stamp because California takes SO DAMN LONG to make a stupid Green Card!!! OOPS! Sorry, I almost lost it there… :-)

You might want to contact your local CIS office to see if you can just walk in or if you need to make an InfoPass appointment.

The approval came with instructions to make an appointment via InfoPass. The approval also stated, that if my wife needed to travel outside the United States before the arrival of the new card, that she should obtain proof from the INS that her 10 year card was being processed. We will be scheduling an appointment quick fast & in a hurry, since we have tentative plans for a couple of trips to Colombia this year.

Way to go, Vermont Service Center & thanks again for making it clear, Ray

Howard,
Ours was little different. We got an interview 9 months after we applied. They said we called you in for an interview because there was insufficient evidence in your submittal. We convinced them it was for real pretty quickly, lots of photos including the wedding. They said Ok,we accept your evidence. My ex got a 10 year permanent resident card in the mail in about a month.I don't know thenumber on it.Even that gets automatically renewed I think. She can only lose it by commiting a felony or being out of the country more than 6-12 months, something like that.
So I am a little confused if you have approval why you need an interview.Maybe someone can enlighten us.
Incidentally,it was about 3 months after she got her permanent residency card and less a than a  month after our last trip to Colombia that she finally admitted the truth in counsoling. That she had no romanttic feelings for me and that wasn't likely to change,No surprise to me.Why I spent over  2 years in counsoling to get her to admit what I already knew I don't know.I just didn't want to give up on it so was willing to accept if not believe lies to the contrary. And the f - - king ditsy assed counsoler.Over 2 years and I have to frame the question to get the truth out of her.Pisses me off because I KNEW better all along.
So much for proffesionals.I have met some real incompetents in the last few years with big credentials.
They are a resource but never overide your judgement and  gut feelings because of anything they do or say.

How true.  One of the basic lessons of life.

I think that might mean that they have to appear in person just to pick up the card, not to interview also, although I have heard of cards being mailed as well.

It has been a full 12 months since my wife applied to remove conditional status. (Texas service center) Her extension letter expires this week. We made an appointment with the INS office in Memphis for later this month to ask them in person what we need to do (or what THEY need to do).
