Here is an e-mail from the US Embassy in Lima, Peru
warning US Citizens planning travel to Cusco and Macchu
Pichu that a general strike is planned in Cusco on March 15, 2005,
which may affect your plans.

Regards,
GB

Date: March 14, 2005
Dear Attorney Bala,
This Warden Message is being issued to inform U.S. citizens that a 24-hour
general strike is scheduled to take place in Cusco, Peru on March 15, 2005.
While the strike is not specifically directed at foreigners and airlines
still have scheduled flights to and from Cusco on that date, Peruvian
authorities believe that transportation outages will affect travelers'
ability to travel to and from the Cusco Airport.  In addition, Peruvian
police believe that the strike may cause the closure of the train leading to
Cusco's premier tourist destination, Macchu Pichu.

The Department of State therefore informs travelers planning to travel to,
from or within Cusco on March 15 that they may experience disruption of
their travel plans, and may wish to adjust their itineraries accordingly.

Americans living or traveling in Peru are encouraged to register with the
US.  Embassy in Lima through the State Department's travel registration
website at  American citizens may also
obtain up-to-date information on security conditions by calling
1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada, and 317-472-2328
from overseas.  These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays.)

Further Department of State travel information, including the complete text
of the Consular Information Sheet for Peru, is available at the Department
of State's web site:  http:///travel.state.gov.  Please also see the current
Worldwide Caution Public Announcement.

Charles Smith
