... in response to Dolphin How's it Going in the DR?, posted by sisko on Mar 15, 2005It is true that the US Consulate in Santo Domingo, DR right now (March 2005) is heavily
backed-up on Consular Interviews for not only the K-1, but also the K-3 and especially
the CR-1 resident visa. This Consulate has always been designated by State Dept. as a
high-fraud post requiring close case scrutiny to begin with.
I agree that people right now should certainly plan to add 6 months to expected waiting
time, if they are wish to process through Santo Domingo for a K-1, K-3 or CR-1.
Apparantly, this Consular post has had some staffing resource problems and other internal issues
recently, which has pushed their interview appointment list back. Their April appointment list
shows that they are averaging (on a currently monthly basis) only about one or two K-1 interviews
a day, and as concerns CR-1 interviews, only a few a month!
Even a quick US petition approval at the Service Center (we had recent I-129Fs, one at
Vermont and another at California (via Nebraska) approved in 14 days), does not help
and will NOT assure a rapid visa issuance through this Consulate because of their interview
back-up. You will be waiting longer for sure in DR at this time, and the couples we are helping
right now are indeed under heavy stress.
Regards.
