Give me a quick rundown on the whole asian thing.
« on: November 24, 2014, 02:13:18 PM »
I love asian women.  Well, acutally I love all women.  I'm very attracted to the asian culture of the woman being submissive to the husband.  I briefly dated a pakistani girl in college and I was blown away by how submissive she was by default.  The first time we ate together she literally hand fed me and wiped my mouth with a napkin like a servant or something.  I couldn't believe it.

Can someone give me an overall strategy of what to look for and how to find it?  What are the best dating websites similar to colombiancupid?  Where I live there is a very large vietnamese community.  I've mainly only met the americanized asians and they're great but I really like the more traditional ones too.  I have a good filipino buddy who travels to the philipines a few times a year, so he could potentially be a big help.

I always see the phillipines mentioned here but what about the other countries, japan, china, vietnam, thailand, korea?  I actually met a korean girl at a hostel in cali colombia.  She was very pretty and we actually hit it off pretty well.  We danced a little salsa and went out to eat together and had some nice conversation.  The next morning she cooked a korean meal for the people at the hostel, but I had a feeling she was trying to impress me.  I only had time to take a couple of bite before I had to run because I had somewhere I had to be at a certain time and when I got back to the hostel she was gone.  I have no way to stay in touch with her since we never exchanged facebook or any contact info.  I felt like kind of a jerk the way I took off when she prepared that meal.  She was super sweet, smart, and pretty.  Plus she spoke good english and I'm sure would make a great wife.

Fill me in here guys, if you don't mind.

My take on Asian women comes from interacting with many of them in college. A lot has to do with what their culture is like now and where it's been. Each of them have their fair share of those that give them a bad name. Just look at some of the things they deal with in their own men and how they could go nitro on you.

Korea- Seoul is by far more hectic and competitive than New York City with their emergence as a major player in the technology area. Men in general have a lot more pressure as there are expectations that they got out after work and drink (Very Heavily) with the boss. Refusal to participate is not an option as it can and does cost them their job if they do not. This is why it is not uncommon to see guys in suits passed out on sidewalks in the morning. There is also a high suicide rate in Korea as many simply only have time to work insane amount of hours, drink and sleep as their lifestyle. So if you like to work and drink a lot a Korean woman will be immensely concerned with this. There are many quirks in dating Korean women. This guy  has a few video blogs at an American born Korean and his experiences. Keep in mind this is one guys experience.

As indicated in parts of that video, it is advisable to always have your own toilet paper--errr 'on hand' over there. Some places--hotels and restaurants frequented by foreigners are the few examples that sometimes have reasonably clean toilets--'comfort rooms' as they're sometimes ironically called in the Philippines. But in most places--even a lot of malls, the toilets resemble 3/4 size USA style toilets--you know-the 'thrones'--in little bitty stalls--but chances are they will not just be without paper, but also that there will be NO toilet seat whatsoever. Oh--and it'll be filthy too. Nasty, with little room to move inside and maybe a line to get to use it. Think about a real grody, commercial jet toilet--w/ no sink or paper.....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tabo_(hygiene)

A lot of places--especially residences, if they don't have as described, they'll instead have a hole in the floor--you do your business and hopefully grab a container to dump some water on top of whatever you 'deposited'. There or here, I always travel with Imodium. I pretty much have a cast iron stomach that allows me to eat anything the natives eat w/o issue, but in most parts of Asia, you definitely want to avoid the 'exploding bowel blues'. When I know the going is really gonna be rough--like when I'm hours from the city, I'll sometimes take an Imodium tablet as just a preventative precaution.

Rest rooms around the world, what they call them and more could make for a thread in their own right. We spent some time in Toronto over the summer and we were getting quizzical looks each time we asked: "Where's the restroom, please?" Eventually, a nice Starbuck's employee clued us in, explaining "Oh--you must mean the WASHroom."
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

Agreed Robert,

People are sometimes shocked in Europe not just by the French Bidet but on the Germany they have the "WasserKlosett" (Water Closet) and I've seen Americans walk into the wrong one "Damen" which is women and "Herren" which is mens. People see men and her and walk into the wrong room. Also not uncommon for German to wait in line to pee just like in the U.S. but the catch is when you get to be your turn and realize German Men don't stand to pee. Most places have privacy but some are open and everyone is watching you drop your shorts. And lets not forget there are some you have to pay to use.

Wherever you go in the world the restroom/head/lavatory etc should be researched for expectations because there are differences everywhere you go. The first time I went to Venice Italy I could not even find a public restroom as they are difficult to find without a map, compass, the ability to take an azimuth reading to get there and a GPS. Luckily we were close to our hotel. But even in the U.S. there are differences as in Louisiana you'll find Bidet and in Washinton DC you'll find all kinds of antique toilets. How the hell do you use this one?

Figures vary quite a bit from the NY Times, The World Health Organization and others, but figures range from 60%,of the planet some say 2.6 BILLION people world wide, others estimate 1.6 million people in the USA alone--that all these figures represent people who have NO toilets--NO indoor plumbing. It's a pretty accepted factoid that more people on earth have cell phones than indoor plumbing/toilets.

I have seen some poor as I could imagine poor being, Filipinos, living in makeshift 'squatters villages'--just the rankest, slinkiest smelling, dirty environments--literally with their kids running around naked--and a lot of them would have cell phones. No real housing, little or no possessions, but a cell phone they could use to text. It's that way in a lot of third world nations.

Pretty much worldwide, cigarettes are an expensive vice, but it also surprising how many beggars I see in the USA and abroad, out begging while not just smoking cigarettes, but smoking Marlboros! In Canada, they tried to make cigarettes so expensive with taxes that no sane person would buy them, and yet  half the pan handlers we saw were puffing away.

If memory serves, you did post some pictures from one of your trips. I think they weren't really fancy, 'posed' type shots--that they were real, everyday, non resort type pics. Exactly what's probably best to see!  Seems you tend to take the path less traveled and that's usually interesting :D

I'm wondering why is the phillipines the main destination for finding an asian wife?  What about china, vietnam, thailand, or other asian countries?  The city I live in has a large vietnamese community, so if I wanted to get me an asian wife I'd probably concentrate on vietnamese women.

I imagine the more traditional ones are pretty submissive and obedient to their husband.  I guess I could go down to chinatown and just start asking around if anybody knows a nice, pretty, traditional girl who's looking for an american husband.  Since we have such a large asian community in my hometown I don't think it would be necessary for me to go through all the trouble of traveling to the other side of the globe to find a good asian woman.

I've dated a couple asian girls in my lifetime but they were completely americanized so I imagine a more traditional woman would be a very different experience.  I remember I went with my laotian buddy to the buddhist temple a few years ago for chinese new year and the chicks were all over me, well kind of a little bit.

Anyway I'm just throwing out some random thoughts.  What do you guys think?  Would it be worth it?

If I could find time to get my arse down to lima peru I hear they have a sizeable population of chinese peruvians.  Now that would be perfect for me, to get an asian and latina in one shot.

Any country--actually the Philippines is the only one that fits this description---with over fifty million women, who are a mix of Asian, with almost 400 years of Spanish occupation influencing their looks (as well as a lot of other nationalities mixed in too) with almost all the women able to speak English, largely being enamored of the USA but still having their own unique cultural characteristics, are going to garner a fair bit of attention, I think.

In some areas, their dialect is quite similar to Spanish--across the entire nation, Spanish phrases (greetings, counting, etc.), are liberally part of the language. Many are fairly well educated, very culturally adaptable, hot but not 'full of themselves' and aren't high maintenance drama queens either. YMMV--You can still get burned in a Makati minute!

Apparently Spanish was the dominant European language in the Philippines until the US took over and replaced it with English. It cracks me up that they all have very Spanish names like Ramona Garcia yet they can't speak a word of Spanish. Of course there are plenty of Ramona Garcias here in San Antonio who can't speak much Spanish either.

They aren't THAT common (you would have to go to certain specific parts of Lima to find them) but yeah, they do exist.

The "chavacano" dialect from the Philippines seems really close to Spanish. it is like a mix of Spanish, English and the local language:

Yea--in places like Zamboanga, where Chavacano's the dialect, with time you're even more comfortable speaking and understanding their lingo if your Spanish is good. I made at least one erroneous (no surprise there) statement--my wife corrected me: In Visayan (Cebuano) the second most widely spoken language, Spanish shows itself more--in Tagalog, a bit less--that they don't count in Spanish among other things in Tagalog.

We get together with Filipinos here who speak different dialects and languages and everybody seems to communicate fine, except for me--98% goes by so fast--I'm clueless.

Cebuano speakers generally have an easier time getting by in Tagalog than the other way around, but Tagalog's the overall national language--known in it's standardized form as 'Filipino' and it's the main mass media conduit. Still, you hear not just a lot of Spanish influences, but a fair amount of English phrases all the way around. So, although it's only spoken by a quarter of the population, Tagalog's one of two 'official' languages, the second 'official' national language being English!! Every where you go in the Philippines, certain English words are commonly used--> 'Quarter Pounder with Cheese', etc.

I believe that Chavacano is a dying language. Whenever I meet Filipinos from Zamboanga or Cavite City, I ask them if they speak Chavacano, and so far 100% said no, but some of their grandparents still do.

The official languages of the Philippines are English and Filipino (essentially Tagalog). English is the teaching medium in schools and official government documents are in English.

Also, most all Tagalog speakers routinely use the Spanish form for counting, money, and telling time. When I use the Tagalog form for those, many Tagalog speakers don’t know what the hell I’m talking about until they recall their Tagalog lessons from school… LOL

Spanish is also very rarely used any more in the Philippines, except by a few old folks. It isn’t taught in schools any more as a required language.
