I think it comes down to personal taste.
I've learn better not to stereotype.
When I first visited my gf/now wife, I wore nice slacks and a button down.
Next think I know, we're at Ripleys (dept. store) shopping for tees and jeans and shorts for me.
She prefers me looking casual when we're out.
Go figure.
Might not be unusual--My wife leans more towards nice casual style when out and about too. I sometimes come home from work and we're going out to dinner. I'll leave dress slacks on, but change my shirt and shoes. But, no, my wife wants me to change to a more casual, but still nice outfit that includes typically jeans. While she doesn't put creases in them, she insists on ironing them, which I think is a bit much. But if I protest too much, she complains that someone might see they have some wrinkles and that it would make HER look bad, LOL.
I really like to wear Asics Onitsuka Tiger slip on running shoes, which have the holes for laces, but you don't use laces--they're laceless slip on and off shoes and are real comfortable. She likes them too, which is a little surprising, because they were designed in 1966 for the 1968 Olympics in Mexico! They go well with most casual outfits.
