I haven't been here for years - but I do have news!
« on: November 07, 2013, 07:31:21 AM »
Hello to all the old timers on P-L
shut out to Chris F if you are still here

It is crazy to think that I have known the girl who is now my wife for 10 years and it all started right here.
I made a trip to see just one girl and went to Peru only after reading about successes from guys here. I also made one of my now very best friends here on P-L who is married to a Peruvian and lives in Nashville.
Once I was a super lonely guy coming off a divorce and then I found P-L
changed my life really

Here is the news!
We are expecting our first child - a baby girl - due in March!
She will be born in Lima and then return to the US

again thanks to all the old timers who paved the way for me
NEVER FORGET   Pete E. and all you guys

That's really a double dose of really good news for the lot of us. Too many times, we're preoccupied with the chase here, then if and when it burns down or pans out for gold, we never hear from veteran posters again. Double congratulations and thanks for delivering a positive vibe!!

Jimmy's wife was also super young when he married her...I think she was like 18 or 19 or something...and it is obviously paying off!

Congratulations my good friend. PL certainly has changed our lives and was even responsible for Jimmy and I meeting in the first place, once we realized we live only a few hours from each other. Thanks for the hospitality last weekend, as always, we enjoyed it. Thanks for the kind words about C., she indeed does so much to pull her own weight (all 95 pounds!) and help our household and her family in Peru. Jlo's aunt is a trip, C. really liked her.

For those who don't know, Jimmy is a great guy, very positive, encouraging, and down-to-earth. He also happens to be one of those rare people who realized early in life the value of saving and investing, working hard to make it happen. Most people could do well learning from him. Enjoy it, my friend, you deserve it.

If you all end up spending most of your time in Peru, we will miss you greatly here, but will look forward to seeing you when we are down there. You have such a head start on me in several ways, not sure I can ever "catch up", lol.

Again, congrats and we will talk soon

Congrats to Jimmy on the baby.

Jimmy and RedCLay:  How did you guys meet your Peruvian ladies? Online, agency, friend, etc.?

I guess I could read the archives but if you come back to this thread it would be interesting to know.

sorry to turn this thread into a personal hug fest!  but gee whiz you guys are great!

Ray - I will call you

some background for any new guys
I met my wife through an agency and went to Peru only to see her
we chatted and skyped everyday before I went  - she also spoke English when we met
my best advice when it comes to women or investing is DO YOUR HOMEWORK - due your due diligence
I spent a month living with her family before I asked her to marry me
hotness and youth come and go - CORE VALUES are where it is at

ALSO - slightly Off Topic
can any Colombia guys give me some feedback of the situation with FARC
I am invested in several oil play producers in Colombia
there is a major new pipeline going in called the bicentennial pipeline
the oil company's in Colombia do real well but transportation and costs are high and attacks on pipelines do happen
if any of you guys can give me some feed back on if this situation with FARC is getting better or worse especially in the Llanos Basin area

just FYI - I have made investing my PASSION for the last 5 years and I am mostly self taught
if anyone of you are interesting in doing your own investing and money management then PM me
I am not selling or promoting anything, I will just point you to some books to start reading and how to get your mind right - successful investing is part psychological + being rational + being well read + discipline

I plan to retire to Peru possibly in 2014

can any Colombia guys give me some feedback of the situation with FARC
Hi Jim, for the most up-to-date news go to http://colombiareports.co which is Colombia's only English Language newspaper. They do a decent job of converting Colombian news stories to readable format for expats. Just today they have another article on pipeline bombings http://colombiareports.co/eln-rebels-return-attack-shut-cano-limon-covenas-pipeline/ and there are many other articles in the archives.
For the most part, FARC is not the problem with the pipelines. FARC seems to be more into blowing up police stations in which process they usually screw it up and wind up killing civilians, children and dogs. They are also into blowing up electrical transmissions lines as they recently did in Buenaventura. Stupid move in my estimation. When they hurt the citizens they continue to erode any respect and admiration they once had from the population. We are all sincerely hopeful that the peace negotiations are successful and FARC will be neutralized permanently.
In the meantime, ELN is the 2nd largest group of so called rebel fighters, and they are continually saying they want peace talks with the Colombian government, too. Supposedly they keep blowing up oil pipelines and kidnapping people as a way to get the government's attention and "force" the government to enter peace talks with them.
Good luck with your investments and thanks for your offer to help others get started. My former partner in the US is doing something similar and has been very successful. Unfortunately, for me, i just can't drum up any interest in stocks or trading, just not my bag. However, my books are doing well and I've got two more coming out next year, so I can look to book royalties as a stream of income to continue helping to finance my retirement.
Take care,
If you are unhappy change something. Quit your job. Move. Leave your miserable relationship. Stop making excuses. You are in control.
