I wish this board had a bigger membership of active and experienced people - with a little more variety and tolerance.

I don't know if that's such a good idea.  While there are many good gringos in colombia, there are also many who are there only for the drugs and hookers and those guys wouldn't have anything valuable to add to discussions on this board.

If you think I'm offensive, these guys wouldn't last two days on this board lol!!
Dance with the one who brung ya!  :)

i kinda like your style of posting, but you do gotta look out about member wives...i hope you continue to be a little rowdy and not let people post what you think is bullshyt without a response!

yeah i'd guess there are some boards for those people interested in drugs, hookers on the international scene...I'm glad people interested in these activities also have a place to discuss their accomplishments/triumphs.

I would have to agree with Zon on this one.  While I do not want to see this board become the sex tourist hang out or anything like that.  I would like to hear a few more opinions as well.  We rarely get any fresh opinions here.  And the times they are a changing!   Plus, I really do not understand all the venom that still surrounds Zon's postings sure I think he had his bonehead moments.  But it seems to me like he is a more humble and changed man.

I really think you are wrong on this one. What fresh opinions do you want? I seen plenty the last several months, with the way the economy has been I do not see a lot of men heading south, no body has the money for it anymore. On Zon lets just say it get old listening to him whine , it is either the married guys are picking on him or there is not enough opinion to make him happy. A tiger does not change his stripes, he just gets old and his teeth fall out.

Oh! I have had some bonehead moments to be sure.  Wiser, Less Careless, and More Selective have been my most recent goals ...  I have one more month until my one year anniversary abstaining  from my troublesome addictions - sexy and superficial women and high risk adventure being the top two.

As for venom, I do not notice anymore ... I found the ignore button LOL

That web site is terrible overall. I read most of it and had to giggle a bit. I read some of the responses here too and giggle some more.

I see an effort by some people to paint themselves as victims of Gold Diggers and Visa Hunters. Any woman that is overtly aggressive when first meeting is a red flag. How is having a nice car and flushed with money a sign of a prostitute, especially when American women (especially BW) wanna scream their accomplishments? I don't know why people want to believe there are more instances of P4P in your regular dating life in America, you just call it dating....

I agree this forum should be kept above board, I know where to find any P4P discussion on the internet and they are (by and large) hostile to long term relationships. That is the more violent reaction middle class men are having to divorce and a complicated dating pool in Anglo Culture.

That blog provided answers only to the most inexperienced among us and even those answers are poor.

I'm pretty inexperienced with the colombian ladies.  What was it that the blogger and people here said that has you rolling your eyes?  I thought the blogging site had good information but maybe it doesn't, afterall it is only one guys experiences.

I could go deeply into what makes me giggle but that would be inflammatory. I'll skip that for the moment.

Put another way, I don't struggle with women or complain about Feminism. I am not wondering about safety issues, scams or prostitution.

If your a green horn, get on a plane. Life is the best experience.

What's special about Colombian women over other women in Latin America? IMHO its all Latin culture there isn't a ton of difference, only some social-economic differences (depending how deeply involved the United States was in the 1970's and 1980's and 2000's, Manuel Zelaya...). You could say there's more European blood in Argentina than Colombia, why you only considering Colombian women?

In the early 00's there was a fixation on Russia, now that Ukraine has relaxed its Visa rules, all the MOB's flock to Ukraine, Russia, where's that? I and others outside of the industry believe Russia is better than ever without the Western MOB element.

Colombia is just in the loop because so much time it spent talking about it, you might think its an ideal hunting ground. If you're concerned about being taken advantage of, maybe you should consider somewhere else?

My friend was not looking for a wife in any part of the world. He was frustrated with AW but never complained about Feminism or anything else. He found his wife on a Interracial forum, she's from Russia.

 Key word there was Interracial

I say cast a wide net if your using the internet, why not?

I know you are right about getting on the plane and I also agree with you about all the feminism complaints.  The men sometimes sound more broken the women they are complaining about.
By the way you have every right to bring your opinion to the website inflammatory or not.

Some good stuff in this blog.
I don't get much out of it. The guy mentions he's done 3 unsuccessful fiancee Visas.  Is that because Colombian women are in general poor candidates for fiancee Visas or does it have more to do with him and his overvaluing for certain qualities (i.e. hotness, good in bed) and ignoring other qualities more important for a successful long term relationship?...Maybe some of the cautionary tales would be good for a newbie but I've found better info and advice about Colombia on this forum.

I caught on to that when I read it as well. I didn't get to the point of actually going to the interview with my ex but we were waiting on the appointment to be set. A gringo friend of mine whos fiance had already moved to the U.S. told me sometimes it's an in and out process, and at other times they want to grill a couple to determine whether or not they really know each other. In those cases, I'd assume the Colombiana would probably receive the bulk of the scrutiny. Maybe this guy was attempting to bring a girl to the U.S. he hardly knew and he got caught by a U.S. Consulate Employee on an "I feel like being an a$$hole" days. Not to insult those folks because they are obviously just doing their jobs, but no one with repetitive tasks at work gives 100% every single day. Either way, I would imagine if for any reason the first attempt at a visa was unsuccessful, it would probably raise red flags for every following attempt regardless of the woman.

I'd really like to hear from more guys that have been through the process successfully though.

As much as I wanted to be there for my wife in Bogota , I'd already exhausted my vacation time visiting her and stayed in the States while she did the interview . I helped prep her as best as I could and was pretty nervous (couldn't sleep the night before) because there was a fair amount she had to get done on her end (police records, medical).  My wife was very organized about it and everything went well. Quite frankly, as much as I wanted her with me, I also needed to know I could trust her to be functioning enough to hold up her end of things...The whole fiancee Visa process is so high risk because we don't get to see how she's going to function on our turf until we've already signed off to support her for the next 10 years in the US...I knew my wife was a high functioning, responsible professional woman in Colombia, but leaving everything familiar behind for everything foreign is quite a challenge for any human being. That's why I say anybody who thinks this is foreign bride thing is an easier path is kidding himself...

There's no way to know for sure how your woman will handle living in your home country, but Mambo gives a great example of ways you can evaluate her and mitigate your risk.

If you want someone who can integrate quickly, learn English, enter the workforce, etc. ... you can improve your odds by looking for someone who has accomplished goals, has a higher education, is organized, is working, helps you plan /organize your trips in Colombia (transportation, hotel), has a sense of adventure, has travelled in her country, can handle the wedding arrangements, can prepare the visa paperwork, etc.

Or, if you are looking for someone whose role will be more to stay home, have children, and take care of the house ... look for someone who is more of a homebody, likes to cook, enjoys taking care of other kids in the family, etc.

All of this probably seems pretty obvious, and it should, but a lot of guys seem to overlook these things or focus on other "attributes".

BTW Mambocowboy, congrats on your new addition to the family!
Hablo espanolo mucho bieno!

for us it was a breeze...wife went to the interview alone in colombia, no problem....since we have been in states we have had a 2 or 3 followup interviews and i can't recall being asked anything even mildly intrusive... basically just shooting the sheet sessions with the govt. employees, they were all very cool...i guess some people get rejected or have problems with agents but not us.

same here as far as nothing intrusive. However, to say they're bureaucrats is an understatement. Our guy in Chula Vista asked to see all copies of all the documents I'd submitted for the green card even though he had them all in a folder in front of him. He said it was too time consuming for him to look and he wanted me to give them to him on command...Not a pleasant experience but if you follow their guidelines to the letter you shouldn't have problems...

I've only read maybe 5 articles on that blog but I did notice the part where he's offering some type of "guide" or hook up service, so maybe he's trying to make it look like you're going to get screwed over if you don't hire him.  More or less...

I think his info is more useful for the newbies as opposed to guys who've already spent time abroad and dated women there.

Amen.
I would not say easier at all. Far from it. At the very least - I'd say different.
Personally I don't see that the risks are any higher. However the rewards are definately higher.

It could be easy, it just depends. Its totally possible you could bump into your future wife on the subway... To be honest the man who did that planned it out, but still no agencies and he happen to be teaching classes in Moscow at the time. He just tried to blend in like the locals, made a routine and in a couple of weeks, thump... His wife.

Just proves that the majority of single Russian women are ready to get married, the right man just needs to present himself.

My friend met his wife on an Interracial Web site. He was even featured in the local newspaper in Russia, I guess its not often her town is visited by a Black man from Chicago.

Lots of Expats in South America are married and have children with locals.

I don't see it as hard at all, its a set of challenges that need to be overcome.  Daunting, Difficult, Money and Time Consuming but not really that HARD.
