Getting a travel Visa for a Colombiana

Probably asked and answered before but.....


While you were dating your nova from Colombia (in particular), was it possible to get a travel visa for her to say, come to visit the US for a weeks' holiday or some such.   Thinking of a trip to Orlando/Disneyworld for a future vacation.   


Any experience out there on this?

Unless she's fairly well off and/or has travelled outside the country before, chances are very very low.


Basically, she will have to prove that she is not a risk to stay and has the means to travel, and that means having money in the bank, a good job, family to come back to, etc, etc.

After doing a little research a surprising amount of B visas do get approved. I think after doing some research though most would be folks applying figure out they don't qualify and then don't even bother applying.

I should add that even though my wife owns her own home in Colombia and had a decent job for 15 years, we decided not to try to get her a tourist visa. 


If she told the truth, she would have had to explain that the reason for the trip was to see me, which would very likely have cost her the visa.  If she lied, there's a possibility she would have gotten the visa, but we didn't want to risk anything that could cause problems for her permanent resident visa.

Whitey would be right.  Other than little Surinam,  Colombia leads all of SA with a 35% rejection of U.S. tourist visas.  That is compared to a 5% rate for Argentinos.  I am not to sure about the consistency of the process.  People  have been approved on the third application,  with no change in their lives (income,  home ownership,  work, etc.)  I am not to sure about any process that is so closed.  If someone is denied there is no recourse what so ever,  NONE!
