Benjio and others,

Just remember that Rio de Janeiro is one city of more than 5,000 in Brazil. :)

The guy said he wanted to find a place in Latin America with lots of well-educated, single women with decent jobs that speak English. I'm guessing he isn't blind so I'm assuming he'd prefer the most attractive selection. I've stayed in Bogota for months at a time. I've stayed in Rio de Janeiro for weeks at a time. I'll leave it up to all the wizz kids we have on the forum to guess in which city I ran into more hot, well-educated, English Speaking single women with great jobs. I'll give you all a hint...I work with probably 20 of them in Rio de Janeiro. If he said he was looking for the hottest women period SOTB, I would have suggested Belo Horizonte or Medellin. If he said good cooks, I would have suggested Lima. If he was looking for bossy bitches, I would have said Bucaramanga. If he wanted a girl that would sleep with him on the first date I would have told him Pereira. If he wanted a girl that was into arts and crafts I would have told him Riohacha. All generalizations built from my personal experiences. I was just trying to help! GOSH!  ::)

Rio de Janeiro certainly doesn't have the most well-educated, single women with decent jobs that speak English in Brazil. I would bet São Paulo and South of it. Brasília too. (By the way, I just saw something in the news about Brazil having the worst English speakers in the world.)

I'm just tired of people that just go to Rio and claim to know everything about Brazil. Benjio... You have to remember that everything you say here is taken as the absolute truth about Brazil or Colombia. Funny enough, those guys believe more in what you say that in what I say about my country.

Of course Sao Paulo has more well-educated single women with good jobs. I'm sure Bogota also has more than Rio de Janeiro, simply because of the population difference between the two cities. But again, I was talking about the city with the most ATTRACTIVE women that also had all the other characteristics he listed. There are some beautiful girls in Sao Paulo. Probably tens of thousands of them. But Rio is a beach culture city. In my opinion women take much better care of their bodies there and they are much more obsessed with being beautiful and physically fit. Same difference between Bogota and Barranquilla. Not only that...most gringos do not travel to Latin America to search for European looking girls, which is how a very good majority of the women look in Sao Paulo.

BG, I would absolutely never pretend to know more about your own country than you do. But you also know very well, I've been to Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Vitoria, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and pretty much everywhere in between. I've spent significant time in the last two, and have dated a lot in Rio. I'm just offering my point of view as a gringo that's done it. I'm not an expert on the demographics of Brazil.

..most gringos do not travel to Latin America to search for European looking girls, ...

Perhaps this is true. However can I say that there are lots of us who prefer European looking girls, it is just that we value other aspects of latin women more. These other aspects may or may not be more pronounced in less European looking women. I think it should not be assumed that any given gringo would not prefer a European look.

Okay V_Man, I'll concede that. But seriously, does anyone understand my point about which city, IMHO, has the hottest women with those characteristics then? Because I'm sorry, but the European looking women in Rio are STILL hotter than those in Sao Paulo, which has been the entire point of my argument in this thread. Rio has a very well deserved reputation for gorgeous women. Anyone reading this; please ask yourself have you ever heard anyone say, "OH MAN...those Sao Paulo girls!" Now ask yourself the same question about Rio de Janeiro. I was just trying to give the guy a good recommendation based on my experience. And although I have an immeasurable amount of respect for BG's intelligence and experience in Brazil (not to mention the fact that she's Brazilian), I would assume that I've recently spent much more time observing the fairer sex in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. I would also assume I have a better idea of what men in general think is attractive. Anybody here going to try and sell me the idea that there are gringos that travel to Latin America to wife hunt and how attractive the women are isn't their primary motivation? Let's all be honest with each other guys...seriously? Am I just talking out of my arse here, because I'll stop posting if so.

Benjio, as you know I have never even been to Brazil. However as usual, everything you have said sounds entirely reasonable to me.

So it all comes down to what kind of beauty attracts you. By brazilian guys standards, the prettiest girls are in the South states (Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in cities like Curitiba, Florianópolis aka Floripa, and Porto Alegre) and in Goiás (Goiânia) and Minas Gerais (Belo Horizonte).

I really thought girls in Minas were better with English since the vast majority of Brazilian immigrants in the USA are from there. Goiás in a mainly farm state, so I'm sure the regular girl from there doesn't speak English. Your Spanish might work in those places if the girl is willing to pay attention.

In the other hand, the regular girl from the South has higher chances to speak English. So, if I was a gringo looking for a pretty girl that speaks English and has a good job, I would come to Belém and meet me. Kidding  :P . I would go to Rio, because it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world anyway, then stretch the trip to one of the South cities.

I laughed when I read the line "Your Spanish might work in those places if the girl is willing to pay attention." When we were in Portugal last year, my wife would talk to people in Spanish and they would respond in Portuguese and they could pretty much understand each other. Except for one old guy that we asked directions from. He kept insisting that we needed an interpreter and my wife kept telling him, "We don't need an interpreter - I can understand you! Just tell us where we need to go!" I don't think the old guy wanted her to understand him - he may have had a thing against the Spaniards.

Hi All,

Thanks for your replys...very helpful :)

To those of you who have married or found a long term partner in SA, how long did it take to get to that stage from your first serious visit there?

Greetings all,

Im aged early 40s, from Australia, and am considering a trip to Latin America.
One of the reasons is to meet woman, as I would like to find a suitable partner to marry in the next few years.

How important is it to have proficient Spanish language speaking skills?  I currently have no Spanish at all.

Which country whould have the best prospects for me with no Spanish language skills?
Steve, you say you're looking for a marriage partner. I gotta tell ya, I'm married to a Colombiana and I think you're really limiting yourself if you don't learn Spanish. In Colombia, especially Barranquilla, there are very few young, attractive women who speak English, and plenty of good women who can't speak any English.... In addition, you'll be missing out alot if you don't speak Spanish because you won't be able to understand alot of the subtleties of your partner's culture, nor communicate with her family....

I started to communicate with about eight woman ( one became my wife) about two months before I arrived in Lima.
If your not going to be going down there for six months to a year I would wait to start writing to women until a closer date of your departure.

Sorry to be corny but she met me at the airport and we have been comitted to each other ever since. So I guess you could say it took about 2 seconds. That's what I tell her anyway! However that was after months of talking via cam. Also it wasn't until after my second visit that she was sure that she could trust her initial instincts.

I think that your real question is whether this is feasible for you. Firstly, who can say how things will turn out for you? Secondly, you need to plan to travel there twice a year for 2 years. Anything less is not impossible but it is not very realistic either. After 2 years and 4 trips you will know enough to decide what to do.

That said, I decided to just go for one trip and then decide what and how to do the next step. This worked out fantastic for me.

I agree with the earlier advice. If you can not travel within 6 months, spend your time learning Spanish or Portuguese. Take a latin dance class. Learn about the cultures. All these things will make a massive difference when you are finally ready to buy that first plane ticket. Once you are ready to get the time off work and buy a plane ticket - that is the time to go online and search.

So, if I was a gringo looking for a pretty girl that speaks English and has a good job, I would come to Belém and meet me.
