Cam, yea tons of taxi dance places here in Houston.  $3 dollar beer for you $13 dollar beer for her and she hangs out and dances with you in the time it takes her to finish her drink.  Very rough looking places but if you're not looking for trouble  you'll never find it.

Benjio, heck yea let's hang out, I want to know all about your travels, especially Colombia.
Dance with the one who brung ya!  :)

Belvedere?!!! House of Blues on Saturdays? C'mon man...give me break. We're talking clubs that play Tejano all night, where none of the staff speaks English. Where if a gringo white guy does walk in he's getting stared at like he has [snip] on his face.

Or, as I explain those kinds of places to people, "This is not a safe place for an English speaking white man.".

Sounds like the El Jaguar Club in Dallas, except the only time I went there, about 10 years ago, the beer prices were $2 and $12....that's inflation for you. I'm thinking you could find trouble there, even if you weren't looking for it, although there wasn't any the night we were there

Man.....  still Benijo some of those places that H-Town mentioned sound pretty nice and definitely not all dangerous and thugged out like Stevie made it sound.  H-town never said to go to the [snip]tiest Tejano bar in Houston.  Things like this discussion are important to make sure people are getting different points of views.  If I just went by Stevie's view on the scene in Houston I would think damn.... Houston is a dump, but H-Town who lives there and you yourself have confirmed that their are indeed some really nice places to go and hit the Mexican and Latin scene.  Damn....makes me want to take a trip down to Houston! I got some old military buddies living there.  ;)

Jax, it would definitley be worth the trip. The night life in Houston has been "yo-yoing" for years now. For three years it's awesome, for the following three nothing is really happening. But recently we're definitely experiencing one of the peaks. The city begins to crack down hard on clubs and bars after someone gets shot or drunk driving accidents and fatalities begin to increase. My friend owned a club on Richmond and after a guy was shot and killed the city ticketed him $25K for not having enough off duty HPD officiers there for security (clubs use to have to maintain a predefined ratio of security personnel to club patrons, but I believe that law was changed). It wasn't his fault because the shooting happened outside in the parking lot, but the city couldn't give a rat's ass. Needless to say he had to shut the place down soon afterwards. I remember when the Astros went to the NLCS in 2005. Downtown Houston could have given Bourbon Street in New Orleans or even the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles a serious run for their money. There were dozens of great clubs, lounges and bars all within about 10 city blocks and the streets were filled to the brim with partiers. The Police even began to turn a blind eye to people walking down the street drinking alcohol...something that is VERY illegal in the State of Texas. If the Texans have another good season this fall I'm expecting the club scene to get even better. Right now I would consider the night life the best it has been in years. Rice Village, Midtown, West 1960, The Galleria Area...even the Richmond Strip is making a bit of a come back.

Tons of beautiful women in Houston too. Even though we're the "fattest city" in the union I see hundreds of gorgeous, single girls every time I go out. That's why I'm always so surprised on here when someone begins to rant about all American Women being overweight. Perhaps it's an age thing though. As far as their attitudes, semi-feminist to all out feminazis but Texas Girls are usually very approachable and polite. Come on down and enjoy yourself!

Yes Houston has a much more diverse nightlife than people outside the area could imagine. All most people outside of Texas know about Houston is hearing NASA communicating with the shuttles, haha. Houston has it's own libertarian-leaning culture, a little like New Orleans (especially after the immigrants from Katrina) and very "let me do my own thing" attitude. Check out articles on red light camera repeal and anti-zoning activism to get a sense of it.

Years ago in the early 1990s when I was more into country music I would visit there to the various C&W line dance type clubs available. Houston also had bluesier type private clubs where people danced Texas push and swing.

As for schmoozing women in taxi dance places, it never bothered me. People pay much more to talk to a therapist. You get some companionship for an evening with a woman that may appreciate it more than sitting next to the common day laborer. I'm sure guys often pay more money in "normal" night clubs anyway, only to strike out after buying women drinks who were basically playing them for freebies.

Latina America just has different layers of ethics. It was rare to see an Anglo woman in a taxi dance place and they usually did not stay long. Some of the latinas told me they'd been doing it for a decade.
