Honor Student sent to jail for missing too much school
« on: May 29, 2012, 01:03:05 PM »
Diane Tran, 17, spent a night in a jail cell and was fined $100 because of a Texan law that makes it a crime to miss more than ten days of school in a six month period.

Tran, who works full-time at a dry-cleaning business and part-time for a wedding planner, has been supporting her brother and sister since her parents separated and her mother moved away.

Judge Lanny Moriarty said that he intended to make an example of Tran by placing her in jail.
