Cover for me boys I'm going back in.
« on: March 11, 2012, 10:52:51 PM »
OK so the first operation succeeded beyond what a bloke should reasonably expect. I couldn't scrape together the resources to make another incursion in December but it wasn't for lack of desire!!  :P
On the other hand the first operation didn't send me bankrupt so I'm gonna give it another shot. Let's see just how much trouble I can get in to!!! :o

I'm not as well prepared as the first time in many respects. On the other hand I have less uncertainty to deal with this time around. Also although I'm not sure that my Spanish has really improved, I'm definitely more confident conversing in Spanish now.

Since I didn't get shot, kidnapped, stabbed, stood up, ripped off or suffer anything more than travellers diarrhea  and an attempted pick pocket, I've decided that I need to push my luck a lot further. I've decided that one country simply isn't ambitious enough. This time I'm gonna tackle four countries.

This time it is going to be Colombia, Peru, Bolivia and Chile.
So once again I'm going to do things opposite to conventional wisdom.
After all, what could possibly go wrong??   ::)

The excitement is only now starting to build as I count the days until departure.
 Any advice?
You know by now that I'm going to ignore your advice and do it my way anyway, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good advice.
Anyway as Whitey told me - as long as you are getting on the plane, you are doing the right thing. 8)

No one here is going to cover your sorry azz!  Chile,  drink wine,  and you know half the country thinks that they are Latin/Euros,  NOT Latin/Americans.  Bolivia,  Butch and Sundance met the end of the line there.  Just give Evo a big wet kiss and you should be ok.  Peru,  Lima actually has more petty street crime than Colombia,  so carry all of your Sols in your sandles.  Then when you are tired of all the crap holes and return to the GREAT Colombia,  you can tell all of the Colombians how much better THEIR county is.  That should be worth at least half a liter of aguardiente.

On the somewhat serious side,  I think that the people from Oz are some of the best world travelers there are,  so you can't really have any problems.  If you do make it to the confines of Medellin we can sit on a bench and watch all the beautiful Paisas pass by.  Have a great,  safe trip.

I think you'll get plenty of tips on Colombia, so I'll just make a couple quick comments about Peru.  I think Machu Picchu is a must see if you're in Peru.  It is incredible and well worth the trip.  I would also invest a little time reading up on Peruvian cusine.  It is amazing and there a ton of amazing restaurants in Lima.  I also had great food in Cusco during my trip to MP.

it sounds like fun VMAN...I'm guessing you are not taking your lady with you?  Sounds like your jets are REALLY cooled if that is the case!  How long are you going to travel to each country?  I think it is a good idea for a man like yourself to see all the options he can before deciding on a woman for marriage.

Looking forward to your sit reps, soldier!

Bolivia, Chile ... pass ... well, at least after you go, you'll appreciate the colombianas that much more.  Any chance of heading to Brasil instead, or is Portuguese too much of a barrier?

Peru sounds like an interesting place for many reasons, but regarding the peruanas, the common wisdom is that there aren't as many attractive ones ... but hey ... you only need one!

Have an awesome trip!

Bravo!! I have no idea why you chose those countries but it is always nice to hear some men don't mind venturing to the (kind of) unknown, even if the ever famous Colombia is in your list I am sure you will have much more fun with this approach instead of focusing on stalking only women from one country :P

Have you considered Uruguay? Been there and it's safe, fascinating, and the women are attractive and fun. More attractive than Bolivia but I've never been there, only seen videos and heard accounts. Never been to Peru or Chile but they're high on my list of places to visit, and I hear great things about both.

I've heard that Ecuador is pretty nice too.

Hi Micky,

That would be awesome mate! Unfortunately I wont make it to Medellin this time. However I am certainly interested in visiting that city sometime in the next year or two. May be we can catch up then.
Thanks for the offer and good wishes.

Vman.

Already got the train ticket to MP!!!  ;)
I have had Peruvian cusine and was most impressed. My girl's nephew wants to become a chef specialising in Peruvian cusine. Hence while in Lima, I'd like to scout out some chef schools. Do you have any ideas where I might find some in Lima?

Wouldn't that be an awesome trip!! Yeah I'd LOVE to go to Brazil one day but no it wont be this trip.
As far as Portuguese goes, I don't know how realistic that is for me. It takes me a long time to learn a language. It's not impossible but it would be a long road for me. Those Brazilian women sure are sexy!! Wouldn't it be awesome to work there for a year or two?? Realistically my only plans for Brazil are simply tourism, unless I was to find an English speaking girl.

Good to see someone on the forum still traveling. I think it is great that you are checking out new places. Because no matter if it is good, bad, or ugly you will have an opportunity to learn new things about the world and about yourself. And as Micky said, you may come back with an even better appreciation of Colombianas after seeing the other places.

Are you saving Colombia for last? Or will you be going there earlier in your trip?
