Sweet!!!

Was she one of the lucky one who did everything in 1 day?
Normally it is a 2 day process.
yup 1 day in & out, maybe it helped that she is a nurse ?? not sure.

Since you are beyong help have already given up on buying items for Marily before she get here. You should now (if you haven't already done so) start looking for & price tickets (not book them - you do that after she have the visa in hand).

Check all the available options - price, frequency, dates, connections, POEs, etc,. You do not want to be rushing at the last moment trying to find tickets and you also want to give her enough time to prepare herself and to say her goodbyes.
If we were all forced to wear a warning label, what would yours say?

already been checking & just shy of $1000 is what i have been coming up with.POE looks to almost always be Detroit, but there are a few others. we are going to wait till june 5th/6th for her to arrive. this will set her up from the get go with a 10 year GC.
them we are
FREE, FREE AT LAST!!!

now as far as me buying things for her before she arrives
i know anything that is pink will hit the mark.
however besides the 20lbs of jasmin rice i already have i want her to pick out the brand/type that SHE wants. i feel this is the safe way to do it ;)

thanks

She cannot fly under her name & you earn the miles; it do not work that way. The miles would be earned under her own name/SkyMiles account and then she can transfer them to your account or share them.

That's very nice of you, Pig. But remember she doesn't know the brands that are sold in the US, so it might be a little difficult for her to chose. I remember on my first day of vacations in the US I went to the pharmacy to get some basics like deodorant and headache medicine and it took me a while to figure out what I wanted.

A good thing would be have a small supply with the basics, then take her to shop and guide her through it. or simply ask her. She might want you to chose everything, at least for when she gets there.

Other tip is to tell her to never convert the prices to pesos, otherwise she won't want to buy anything. (Assuming that food is much cheaper in the Philippines.) I went to the grocery store to buy whole bread, and besides being overwhelmed with the choices of types and brands, I kept thinking about how expensive they were (and how big the portions were). A friend (from Colombia) saw me staring at the counter and told me to not convert to Reais. It helped me.

And don't forget piggy that she will be going by the metric system until she learn our system. You will be saying ounces & pounds while she will be saying grams & kilos - so you do the converting....ha ha. And also, a sack of rice in the US is 100 lbs.  ;D

Yes, Piggy! Make sure she has a converter on her phone.
well i just sent her a prepaid phone when i sent in the rest of the documents for her interview.
i had to spend $75 for the minuets to stay on the silly thing longer than 3 months.
she would flip out but how am i going to know when she lands in Detroit if she has no phone??
smoke signals? mite be too much wind for that  ;D :D ;D
so i got her a prepaid cheepie for now. once it's dead i'll get 2 new Verizon phones but i'm not sure if all phones have that money converting app.
i'm not Bill Gates & i'm not getting 2 so called "smart phones" with taxes my bill would be over $220 a month, sorry boys & girls that dog will not hunt.
i'll get her a $7 calculator at wally world & she can convert all she likes  ;D :D ;D

Piggy, next time you marry a girl from the PI and send her a prepaid phone, get her a TracFone.

The phone is free and an additional 90 days will cost you $20.

Tight budget? I pay around $4/mo for air time...

so i'll have to suck it up.
i figure it's just part of doing business.

Pigster there are many converter apps out there. You get one based on what OS your phone have - Android, iOS, WebOS or Windows.

As for cellular service when she gets here, why don't you just keep her on a prepaid plan. It's not like she will be making calls all over the place to have her on a regular plan.

When my wife first came I got a prepaid plan for her on TMobile - $100 refill and the minutes are good for 365 days.

Piggy, you have to learn how to be a wise shopper aka a slickdealer.  ;D
