That was expected as Taiwan was the only country with a nomination status / was nominated.

A country must first be nominated before they are accepted into the VWP.

Why give a speech about adding more countries to the Visa Waiver Program when there is only 1 country eligible to be added to the VWP. Having other countries/people hope up high when in reality they are not yet eligible.

The Latin vote is huge in the USA and the politicians realize not only that, but how they can work their numbers to their advantage and vote pretty much as a bloc. They learned in south Florida in particular.

I would think though, with all the tough talk and grand standing about illegal aliens, that they'd be scared to discuss this, never mind give speeches. I would think there is probably very little real risk in this case, at least minimal risk of unsavory people coming here in numbers and staying illegally.
Whether you think you can or think you can't--you're right!

If I may make a suggestion let's forget the upcoming election and party politics for a second and focus on something the U.S. is in dire need of right now...money.

Benjio--I'm afraid you'll never amount to anything in the USA with that sort of common sense.....

depends on the rules and how well the state dept enforces them. colombians used to get visas a lot more easily years ago, tourist, student ect, but so many of them overstayed, worked illegally or never went back, the govt cracked down and now you have it as it is now, difficult if not impossible to get.

isnt that the truth. not many jobs for the people already here. so if they try to overstay they may not like it much here. but i don't really care if they come for a visit.

we are broke & Ohbummer thinks we should take on even more debt. if i was WAY overextended it would probably not be a good idea to run out & get 9 more credit cards to max out by the end of the year.

time for us to stop being the police force for the world, UNLESS they wish to start paying us to do so.

Benjio--I'm afraid you'll never amount to anything in the USA with that sort of common sense.....

At only 31 years old, I guarantee you'd be surprised by what I'm already "amounting" to.

No jobs here, tons in Brazil. Do you have any idea how many Americans that couldn't find work here for the past three years are now working in Brazil?

Brazilians come here and spend money helping our economy then go back home. How is that bad for America? Did you even read that article or just reply to my post? Brazilian Tourists spend more money here than tourists from any other country on Earth.

The ethnocentric view that many Americans have that every foreigner wants to come here to stay is about to get slapped in the face by reality. Every Brazilian I know (those that can afford to travel) wants nothing from the United States but the opportunity to buy things here at half the cost they would have bought them for in Brazil. Explain to me what's wrong with them spending money here?

Benjio,

I meant that common sense is so lacking in  our leadership--in our political system, that anybody who was showing 'common sense' would probably have a hard time getting accepted into the political system--that they would have a hard time 'amounting to anything'. That's IF they had the stomach to even try to mix with the swine we call politicians. I think a truly honest person, interested in doing what's best for the majority of our people, would have a tough time working within our system.

I love my country still, but our political system is like diapers--often full of shyt and in need of a good changing. Our middle class--the average working person, is in the worst position we've seen in over 70 years, in my opinion.

I have said numerous times that we should never assume that most people abroad want to move here to live. I think a whole bunch would like to visit certain spots in the USAand yes, shop too--the number one thing that all vacationers do after all, is SHOP.

If we had the money, my wife would move back home in a minute. She'd like to come back to visit the USA once in a while, but the quality of life--'meaningful life'-- beyond the materialistic rat race we seem to have in the USA, makes living overseas and coming back here to visit occasionally, very attractive. That's why we've already bought a house and hopefully in six or so years, we'll being living in her country for 9 or 10 months a year.

Sorry if you thought I was putting you, or any country down. I respect you and enjoy what you have to say here a lot.

We need more guys like you--people in their teens, 20's and 30',s who aren't afraid to think differently and who can share their experiences and perception. I think the demographic here is skewed too much towards guys in their mid 40's and older.

As for Brazil----I have commented in the past here on how amazing that nation is--it's people, it's arts, education, medicine, science, aerospace, natural resources and a land mass about the size of the USA's lower 48 states--it's a nation to watch! Besides--they have Brazillian Girl!!

Cannot speak for Brazil ... but my recent visit to Medellin over Christmas got me thinking about the abundance of opportunities there that most of us here in the U.S. take for granted. I believe an opportunistic gringo can make alot of money there doing a clean and legitimate business. There are opportunities here also, of course. But I think they are a little more difficult to find.

Brazillians please come to Australia. I think you do actually need a visa but it is easy to get. You certainly do not need an interview - just a bank account.
