That really sucks, and especially after the Colombian army took out their leader a few weeks ago. I was just down in BAQ for
a couple of weeks and the killing of Alfonso Cano was non-stop on the news for quite a while. It seemed like things were going
to improve and even my lady and her family seemed to think that Las Farc were on their way out, but this latest episode proves
that they are still a formidable and dangerous group.

shooting four men who are chained up and unarmed does not in any way make them formidable or dangerous, just pathetic and running scared

Not counting the hostages chained up and not being able to defend themselves or their ability to be able to clear out a
town in minutes or bombs being deployed for innocent people to die or be injured from, this group after almost 50 years has
not been eliminated or it would seem even harmed enough to indicate any weakness there. They are still able to take out
soldiers and do pretty much what they wish. They are in my book and according to my wife and her family formidable and dangerous.

“Running scared” is a little blithe. Killing hostages when the army or police get too close or attack a camp has been standard procedure for some time.  The worst in memory was the killing of the twelve representatives who had been kidnapped in Cali years ago. In the current case a combined army/police group had been closing in for a moth and a half.  The cadavers were found  wth chains close by and appear to have been unchained after receiving coup de grace  shots to the head and one to the back. The CTI (Cuerpo Tecnico De Investigacion) only recently arrived at the site and we’ll have to wait to find out the conditions of their deaths. A fifth police, Sargeant Erazo escaped into the jungle during the firefight.  Three FARC came after him launching grenades as they went. He seems to have taken a hit but is out of danger. It will be interesting to see the future interviews with him. If the government can take down or capture the new leader, Timochenko (who is reportedly holing up in Venezuela [Santos and Chavez are scheduled for talks in Caracas tomorrow]) then the FARC may very well start splitting away from their commanders and join the Bacrim, the emerging drug gangs.  That will not be a pretty picture.

if that happens, Colombia will be a really big mess, flashback to the late 80's when it wasnt safe to go out of your house at night, but im sure Chavez would  just love that ;)
