Mailing a letter to Colombia
« on: September 30, 2011, 07:43:53 AM »
I was planning on writing a letter by hand to my novia.  There is nothing more romantic that receiving a hand written letter and I know she will love it.

How reliable is the mail service in Colombia?  What is the best way to mail a letter?  USPS, UPS, FedEx?

Thanks for all of the advice!

This may be overkill but I've always used http://www.abecargo.com/   It was recommended to me by posters many years ago and they have never lost anything and their prices are decent.

I am not from the United States, and therefore I cannot help you with the 'export' part.   From UK to Colombia, in my experience, it took me between 9 days to 3 weeks, and to date, my girlfriend had received all my letters, parcels without any problems.   I send it with Royal Mail - a normal delivery service.

Do not need to waste your money on FedEx unless it is very important.

gato is correct, just allow 3 weeks normal mail. I have received in 2 weeks sometimes.

Andy is right about the travel time for envelopes and small parcels. Once I sent my novia a small parcel via the USPS and asked for the slowest possible postage (Just ask FT, I am 'muy tacaño') and strangely it arrived in 11 days (a new record to BAQ it seems).  My novia was shocked! Of course this was late in the month of February.

Hehe! I don't remember teasing you about being cheap. If it is true that you are cheap, then lighten up with the cash a bit!

Ok FT thank you for the 'advice'. Now, to prevent eminent 'thread drift' I am going to start another thread and FT can 'chime in' if he pleases. In fact this time I hope he does.
